Stone City Hostel

Superb! One of the nicest hostels I've ever been. No matter your age, you'll feel very comfortable in this lovely place. Staff is great, super friendly. Location is very handy, in the city centre, walking distance from bus stops. You also get a view of the castle. Don't miss Walter's city walk, lots of surprises on this tour!

This is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. Great location a very short walk from all the sights; comfortable and clean bedrooms and bathrooms and lovely communal spaces inside and out; fabulous breakfast; a beautifully restored old building; great hosts who organise an activity such as local walk each evening so it's very easy to meet other guests and it was the most sociable place I've stayed. Highly recommended

This is the best hostel I have stayed at! Fantastic staff, great facilities, clean, and very affordable! My partner and I stayed 3 nights in the 6 bed dorm and were very pleased with our stay.

Amazing hostel experience. Clean, nice shower set up with lots of hooks! A cozy vibe with family breakfasts. Great atmosphere and location. Lovely owners, they do a great free walking tour. Also handy as you can pay with Paypal!

One of my favorite hostels I have stayed at!

I only stayed one night, but I easily could have stayed longer just because of how lovely the facilities and owners were.

I was lucky to be there on a Thursday night which is when they do their family dinner. It’s 700 LEK and absolutely worth it!!

Right in old town and great information provided at check in.

Great hostel, from the bus station its a bit of an hike but then you get the good part of being centrally located regarding the sights.
Owner is a great guy and does a free walking tours for the hostel quests which was a great experience.

There are not any bigger supermarkets nearby, only minimarkets, so thats maybe a minor minus, but then again you wont be starving since there is a bunch of restaurant around the corner.

All the facilities are in good shape and breakfast was nice, they have filter tap in the kitchen so you can get drinking water for free on the site.

Very good hostel. The owners are extremely nice and attentive to every detail. They care a lot about the well being of the guests. Very nice atmosphere too and very comfortable beds.They have an amazing self-made breakfast. I had to leave my last day without breakfast and they prepared a bag for me to take with me the next morning.

Absolutely by far the most boutique hostel I have ever stayed in. Thank you so much for making such a special safe space for travellers , felt just like home.

Such a lovely place, beautiful patio area, good dorms, spotless bathrooms with a dry area for your clothes. What a difference that makes! Yummy breakfasts and great location. Social hostel but also quite relaxing, with a tortoise and puppy 'Buddy.' I didn't use the kitchen but seemed fully equipped. Brenna, Walter and the 2 volunteers were so helpful and friendly. I felt very comfortable and homely there

Walter and Brenna are lovely hosts. The facilities are great, the atmosphere is lovely, the common area is spacious, comfortable and full of board games.

I specially enjoyed the walking tour Walter gave us, it was extremely fun and educational!!

I have stayed in many many hostel, and this might be the best I've ever been to. Awesome breakfast, beautiful building, perfect location to explore a picturesque city. Wolter is such a friendly host and the travellers I met there were all interesting people. If you visit Gjirokaster stay here!

What an incredible experience we had staying at Stone City and literally cannot shut up about it!!! Walter and Brenna are so incredibly knowledgeable about the area and gave us a million tips on how to fill our days. We planned to stay three nights and ended staying for five. Loved all of the group activities, especially the hike and dinner in the vineyard :)
Can't wait to come back!

Everything you read here is true. The hostel is perfect and shouldn’t be missed if you are in Gjirokaster. Walter and the staff were so friendly and helpful. It’s a very social place, but not a party hostel for the young and drunk.

I stayed in a private room with a dedicated bathroom, and it was the perfect mix of hotel and hostel.

- very clean, recently renovated, and beautiful building
- spacious, well appointed outdoor area.
- kitchen and common areas cozy and inviting
- perfect location in old town, right by all the restaurants
- comfortable beds, AC, clean bathrooms

can’t say enough good things about this hostel!
GREAT facilities, SO clean, beautiful interior, great common room, great atmosphere. the staff were beyond accommodating - they even made us a breakfast to bring on our morning bus! the breakfast is somehow lovely, too.
such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. i’d go back to gjirokaster for this hostel alone.

It was a pleasure staying there. The dorm rooms are nice and the bathrooms are very clean. My highlight was the balcony/roof terrace and the welcoming and funny staff members/owners. It's really close the the old bazaar, the heart of Gjirokaster

By far one of the best hostels in Albania! The dorm rooms are cosy. The bathrooms are really clean and great showers! But my favourite thing was the free breakfast! I love that everyone sits around the table in the morning, the environment makes it so easy to meet other travellers. The terrace is also gorgeous and the hostel is really well located in town.

Stayed here with two friends for 2 nights in April, 2022. It is hands down one of the best hostel experiences I have ever had. Amazing staff and the owner Walter was fantastic. Great company and easy going. On day 2 Walter organized a hike in the nearby villages including a " snack" at the end of the hike, at a local restaurant (best food I had in Albania)
Rooms were clean, bathrooms spotless and breakfast was always fun at the communal table / kitchen. Also a shout out to whoever chose the Interior colours of the hostel ;)

Perfect stay!
I am backpacking over 10 years and that was most probably the best "hostel" I have ever been. For my taste it is more like a boutique - hotel, just that you share your room with some more people...
But from the very beginning: I was welcomed very friendly by the owner. After showing me around he was explaining the surrounding and giving suggestions for what to do... and was helping me out concerning my questions... furthermore he was offering a city walk on Sunday. Very interesting! The place itself is amazing and super clean! The interior is lovely!!! I stayed in the 6 bed room. The view was amazing! Same on the terrace! Nice few, a lot of space, beautiful greenery/flowers. Great location close to all sights. Fabulous breakfast!

This is honestly one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. It is inside the old city and it’s perfectly situated to visit everything by foot. The rooms are very comfortable with drawers to put your belongings in. There are enough toilets and showers and they are always squeaky clean. There is a beautiful terrace and breakfast is delicious as well.
The environment is welcoming and warm. The guests are respectful and polite and we met beautiful people.
The owners, Wouter and Brin, are super nice and incredibly knowledgeable not only about the Gjirokaster area, but about Albania in general and they were always happy to share their insights with us.
Do not hesitate to stay here, you won’t regret it!

I was lucky enough to spend the last two nights of the season here before they shutdown for winter, you’d think being so close to the end the service might lack but that was far from what happened ! They still ran a free walking tour one night and the next night was a free hostel dinner ! This was some of the best traditional Albanian food I’ve had in Albania. Not only were the staff super helpful with great tips on arrival the facilities were very modern and super clean, I couldn’t recommend this hostel more.
