Geghard Monastery

What a great place filled with history. The part of the church is carved out of the mountain. Most of the artwork is carved directly into the walls of the mountain.
This is another must see place while visiting.
Outside of the church there are shopping stands with local sweets and goods. Negotiations are recommended before buying.

Incredible monastery - definitely worth the visit! It is partially built into the mountain and has some amazing rooms with incredible acoustics.
The monastery is situated a bit out of the way and there is no direct public transport to it. One option to reach it is by a taxi from Garni - about 4 euros each way.

Very very beautiful. There were also vendors and musicians outside the monastery. Large parking but steep hill to walk up to the monastery. Very much worth it! You can buy candles on location to light up in church.

Very unique church partially inside a cave. Being so old it has a very interesting history and so I recommend either to read about it before you visit, or have a tour guide. There are lots of hidden areas you can explore, also have an empty bottle to collect holly water.
It’s also a convenient distance away from Yerevan

Beautiful monastery, it’s an amazing experience to be there. I would recommend this place for all people to visit. It’s so magical.

Unique and marvellous, it's a popular UNESCO world heritage site. There are a number of places to walk to within the complex but it's easy.

It's a old monastery built in 4th century. It's bit different from others as it is partially curved out from a mountain. This monastery is surrounded by cliffs and river. Despite this monastery is compromised several times throughout the history, its still standing with beautiful grace and history. The complex is well maintained as well.

Stunning monastery built into a cliff/cave

One of the more different looking monasteries, because it seems to have been carved directly on the mountainside.

It is pretty big and looks pretty nice, which several rooms spread among several levels. If you go through the small door on the wall behind the main building, you will find the toilet, which costs 100 drams and is that weird hole in the ground, not very usual in Europe or America. You will also find a nice small bridge going over a small river.

When coming from the parking lot and into the temple, you will find a small trail going up, into an opening on the mountain side. It's just a very small cave with lots of small rocks on its floor. Beware that there might be snakes there.

You can buy souvenirs and snacks in the parking lot.

That's a very old historical church and you should visit it once, it worth!
And during your visiting, you can get help from the local guides over there, or search about it.

A supremely beautiful complex in the most amazing landscape. It is also worthwhile paying a visit to Areni 1 cave as well because it’s not that far. Areni 1 cave is fascinating and was where the very first winery was located some 6000 years ago!
