What a great visit. The monastery is located right on the border with Turkey.

If you are not claustrophobic, differently check the underground chambers, it is a quiet experience to climb down.

The short hike to the top of the mountain opens a breathtaking view of the monastery and the valley.

If you get lucky with the weather, this is the best view on Mount Ararat.

Overall, a half day trip from Yerevan and absolutely worth it

The location of the monastery is spectacular with the backdrop of Mt Ararat. Well preserved friezes and kachkars. Very beautiful inside . The views around are beautiful. There is a little walk behind the monastery to walk up the hill and the views from there are even more amazing . Mt Ararat is spectacular

The view was spectacular. Was a sight to behold. We came on a month of January it was quite cold and windy. With a steep stairway. But worth the ascend.

More people in the world should know about places like these. No matter what denomination, no matter what belief, just being inside of a 5th century monastery is speechless. It's a great opportunity for introspect and self reflection.

Fantastic place. Mount Ararat is dominating the landscape turning it into a formidable spectacle. The church itself is interesting too, enabling one to climb down a dungeon where George was kept for 13 years. Lots of fun!

Not a big complex but it's definitely worth going. Great views and marvellous monastery full of history.

The pit took a bit of time to get in.

A rather nice looking monastery, but the highlight is that you can see Mount Ararat from it. Also, the monastery is rather crowded compared to some others in Armenia.

There's the main building and a few other smaller rooms around. You can exit through the back wall and climb up in order to see it from above.

On the way from the parking lot to the monastery, you will see several snacks and souvenirs sellers.

A place with amazing scenic beauty and cultural significance. You will find a wonderful view of mount Aramat and the valley. The way they maintained road is certainly commendable.

This is probably one of the most interesting monasteries I have ever visited. The Mount Ararat view, the call to prayer coming from the other side of the border which has been closed for three decades. The serenity of the place despite the tourists like myself. It was a surreal experience in a sad and an interesting sense. Let's hope peace will prevail and the borders will be lifted one day in the Caucasus

A little bit touristy with the gift vendors and salesmen outside. (Don't fall for the 4000 dram pigeon toss 🤣)

But once you get in, it's amazing. It's everything you expect. The history, the views, etc.

I suggest going on a weekday and early in the morning. This should give you a very quiet time and a clear view of Ararat.

Very near to yerevan and very close to turkish border. Well maintained. you will get clear view of mount ararat (if no cloud cover). On the way you can see Stork nests on the wooden electric poles.

We visited this place yesterday and it was a unique experience. Beautiful monastery without the backdrop of biblical Mount Ararat behind, it's located bordering Turkey. Expansive views are also available of the landscape at a vantage point above the church which is no more than 50-100 meters of climb.

Great view of Mount Ararat from the monastery. Quite a lot of steps to get up but the view is worth the climb. No tickets needed and usually no crowd during winter time. It has a souvenir market at the gate so save the shopping here for souvenirs than in the city.

Visit on a weekday to avoid the crowds. Glad the coin-operated tower viewers have been added since last time, but through them you can see what appear to be Turkish troops keeping Ararat from the people who love it most.
