This solemn 6.2-acre site, nestled among graceful trees and serene shrubbery, is the eternal resting place of 368 courageous military heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the liberation of Belgium during World War I.

We loved the profound history, awe-inspiring architecture, and the moving stories of the soldiers who lie at rest here. The central white stone chapel, adorned with the altar of black and white Grand Antique marble, draped flags, and a crusader’s sword, stands as a powerful symbol of their unwavering devotion.

Be sure to explore the Walls of the Missing, where 43 service members are commemorated, and learn about the four main divisions that played pivotal roles in the final weeks of the war.

In the heart of the cemetery, the chapel of white Pouillenay stone bears the inscription, “Greet Them Ever With Grateful Hearts.” Three dedicatory inscriptions in French, Flemish, and English celebrate the enduring memory of the soldiers who fought and sacrificed during World War I.

The chapel’s interior reveals an altar with an inscribed message of hope, a Crusader’s sword, and bronze candelabras. The panels of rose St. George marble carry the names of 43 American soldiers who rest in unknown graves, under the Great Seal of the United States.

An enchanting mosaic ceiling adorned with a lighted oil lamp and doves of peace enhances the chapel’s sanctity. The graves area, consisting of four rectangular plots, holds the white Carrara marble headstones of 368 heroes, with eight Stars of David marking the graves of those of Jewish faith.

On Veterans Day 2023, we remembered and honored the sacrifices of these brave souls in Flanders Field American Cemetery, named after the poignant poem “In Flanders Fields” by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. Subscribe to our channel, like, and share to commemorate the heroes of this sacred place.

This place DOES honor our fallen nicely, and it is well kept. It does the men who died justice.

But, it's a place that shouldn't exist.

Paid my respects this morning. Beggars belief that 106 years later we’re talking about a global conflict. RIP

The area is very well tended. Obvious respect paid by all who visit. Very well organized visitors center with good information. Bathroom is very clean and parking is free. The number of men killed in the last few days of the war is unnerving.

Without a doubt, one of the most moving experiences I've had in recent years in visiting a cemetery. The grounds are immaculately maintained, the staff informative and knowledgable and accessible, and the dead are revered with the highest of respect at this impressive and hallowed ground. Makes me proud to be an American.

A must to visit. The video in the visitor center needs to be watched. Locals have adopted the graves of these soldiers, learn about their lives, bring flowers, and honor them throughout the year. The men are not alone or forgotten.

As an American visiting, I must say the grounds are in beautiful shape and the exhibit was very clean and well done. We had a good experience here and it was fascinating to see this site.

We've been here twice for Memorial Day observances. Very small compared to most WW1 cemeteries, but just as well done and moving as any other.

Hier per ongeluk gepasseerd en even tijd gemaakt.
