Oscar was the most gracious host. Super friendly and whatever we needed he was there for us. The property is stunning. Very quiet and peaceful. It was easy to get to by car with Google Maps. We love the apartment. It was spacious and warm and cozy.I would highly recommend staying here.

Lovely apartments with wonderful views, private balcony’s, and a shared garden area. Oscar was a fantastic host, he was there to greet us on our arrival and to talk with us about local destinations.

A fantastic spot to stay in Monteverde.

I am so glad to have stayed here. The houses have a nice terrasse with views of a nearby creek. My house had a well equipped kitchen with all you need for your stay. There is a great shared yard to sunbathe in hammocks or enjoy the stunning views of the forest behind the property (which has a walkable trail if you are feeling like exploring!).

However, the best thing about this place is the hospitality of Óscar and Larry, who run Casa Balbi with a lot of dedication and go above and beyond to make your stay a comfortable and relaxing one. All in all, my stay here far exceeded my expectations and I will visit again one day!

Stay here. We spent 10 nights in the wet season and it was a wonderful choice.
We showed up without a set itinerary and took up host Oscar's offer to give us an overview of places to hike and value-for-money restaurants given what we're into and our budget. When the sun was out we were on adventures nearby or playing pickleball on Casa Balbi's maintained grass area. When it rained and in the evenings we were on the beautiful patio reading or doing work on our computers and listening to the river and seeing birds and coati visit. THERE ARE NO MOSQUITOS at this place! Such a relief to be able to be outside & feel like you're in the jungle without any repellant on.
The apartment itself was suuuper functional for travellers. Fully equipped kitchen, space for your clothes, hooks for packs, etc.
I loved this place because of its peace, practicality, and balance. If you want to keep to yourself, you can do that easily with a lot of privacy in the rooms and patios. If you wish to meet people, the hosts are great people and the shared outdoor spaces are conducive to great conversations or a bit of fun.

Excellent place to stay on Monteverde. Oscar the host had very helpful recommendations for local activities and restaurants and was able to assist with booking shuttles. We had a great time and would definitely come back!

Our time at Casa Bilbo exceeded our expectations. The room had everything you needed to feel right at home. The kitchen was supplied well (coffee,sugar, s&p, oil), and the bathroom was newly renovated and clean. The room was cozy, and the bed was comfortable. Location was within 5-10 mins driving from the town or any excursions you choose to do. Hosts were beyond lovely to talk to and even gave you lots of suggestions for places he knew would be worth your time. Definitely recommend staying and would visit again. 10/10 recommend!

I am so thankful to have been able to stay at this stunning property, it was a nice getaway from the sweltering busy beaches to relax and take in the vast nature that Costa Rica has to offer. Thank you Larry and Oscar for making it an unforgettable one. Give Papusa all my love- until next time!

What a beautiful little private place. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. There was a lovely shared yard. We were so close to all the national Park and other wonderful facilities.

Just a great place to stay with very friendly and helpful hosts. I just asked for larger coffee mugs and they appeared. Oscar’s son spent at least 20 minutes just giving maps and recommending all there is to do there! Highlight of our trip!

Lovely stay, just outside of town. Larry gave us wonderful recommendations and guides to Monte Verde to make the most of our time there.

Good budget place to stay in Monteverde

Is a cosy place, Larry is a great host willing to answer all the questions that you might have, the place is very quiet at night, really relax, there is a river next to the rooms so it adds nature sounds at no cost.

Lovely rustic place, with a great host! Is easy to reach beautiful hiking places and the adventure parks.

Larry was a fantastic host. Rrally helpful and friendly. The house is cosy and comfortable. Would go again in an instant!
