Don Juan Tours Monteverde

Maria was our expert guide through Don Juan. She walked us threw the steps on making chocolate and we made our own chocolate treat and then through the steps of growing to producing coffee. We were able to sample some amazing chocolate, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. So informative. The tour was in a covered location so rain or shine you could walk around. The gift shop offered a huge selection of chocolate, coffee, tea and hot chocolate and lots of different souvenirs. Prices were amazing. Our driver was so friendly and on the way back to the resort pulled over and called over a coati. Such a great experience.

We went to the Don Juan tour for Coffee making, chocolate making and sugar cane processing and it was a really interesting experience. It took about two hours and we walked through all the different steps for each while learning a lot about the plant and tree source, how the seeds grow, how they’re processed and how they’re developed and made. I never fully appreciated the level of effort put into chocolate and coffee been food sourcing until this tour. Amazing tour guide (Katherine, I believe). Thankfully the sun was out and the tasting was really cool!

Our group of 4 went for Coffee, Chocolate and Sugar Cane tour and it went great! Our tour guide Jocsan was awesome!!! He explained so much about coffee, we tried real fresh cocoa beans, and we actually made a sugar syrup from sugar cane and tasted it right there! I absolutely loved it! Would recommend to everyone especially if you are a real coffee fan.

Very well organized and on time. Our presenter/guide was very cute and funny. The whole tour was extremely knowledgeable. I actually learned quite a bit. We had lots of laughs and it was fun. I highly recommend it. They have free, coffee and bananas at the end, inside their gift shop

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour today. Our guide, Mario, was so friendly, knowledgeable, and informative. We enjoyed the immersion of the experience, using all our senses. The pressing the
sugar cane juice, chocolate, and coffee were delicious. We bought it to bring back to NYC with us to enjoy Costa Rica back home!

Fantastic tour that simplifies on a very helpful way the cacao, sugar, and coffee. Absolutely worth your time but be warned it’s a meandering drive up into the Costa Rican highlands. Roads could be better but the views are spectacular. 10/10 recommend the experience.

This was a wonderful night. I booked the 3 in 1 tour and it was an evening well spent. I'm not usually interested in "educational" programs run by your companies and really choose this for the night walk but the reviews of Don Juan made me decide to give the chocolate, coffee, night walk tour I try. No regrets, Amy was a great guide and I really lucked out in night walks with birds and sloths and more. Highly recommend.

The 3-in-1 chocolate, coffee and night walk tour was so much fun! Our guide Alex was very enthusiastic and had so much to tell about chocolate and coffee, we taste-tested and had a great time! Going back home with even more appreciation for chocolate and coffee now we know where it’s coming from. The night walk was such an amazing experience, we saw a boa constrictor (!!), a summer Tanager, a green eyelash viper, a red eyed frog, the blue-crowned motmot and lastly a sloth in the bush on the ground right next to us who was just making his way back up a tree. We were able to watch him crawl and climb from a front row! Definitely recommend the Don Juan tours🩵

We booked the 3 in 1 coffee/chocolate/sugar tour and had the most wonderful time. We were surprised how interesting the tour was and even our teenagers had a great time despite not drinking coffee. The tour guide was knowledgeable and interesting and kept the tour moving, so we weren't sitting or standing in one place too long. We would highly recommend the tour to anyone who might be considering it.

Our party of 4 went to the coffee/chocolate/sugar cane tour and really enjoyed ourselves. Our guide, Alejandro, I believe, was wonderful, funny and very knowledgeable. We had no idea how much work goes into planting and picking coffee as well as making chocolate. We even got to taste the slimy chocolate "buds" that were inside the large pod! Very much worthwhile!

It's always a bit of a gamble when you book a tour like this, but this particular one was excellent. Mario was a fantastic host - knowledgeable and entertaining at the same time, and great at getting everyone involved. The two hours flew by and it was great to get tasters at the end as well.

We did the 3 in 1 coffee, chocolate and night tour. It was one of our best experiences in Costa Rica and we have been to Costa Rica many times. Our guide was absolutely amazing. Very knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. Best off all during the night walk we saw a sloth moving literally 20 feet away from us. Wow! Don Juan is the best company with most knowledgeable guides to learn about coffee and chocolate. Very organized as well. Highly recommend it!

Our guide, Julio, was friendly & super knowledgeable. Excellent chocolate. C99l ducks. Fun gift store. Even our 3-year-old enjoyed it. (Also, if you like hand-crafted wood bowls, check out the Rosewood Souvenir shop next door.)

We got the 3-1 cane sugar coffee and chocolate tour. It was well explained from beginning to end for all the processes. The tour guides and staff were very nice making for a great few hours.

Our guide was named Jose and he was wonderful. Very funny and knowledgable!

We got to try lots of different stages of coffee and chocolate. From the raw berries, green coffee, chocolate coated coffee beans, fresh sugar cane juice with lime that we got to make ourselves and my favourite was the original Nahuatl hot chocolate recipe!

Lots of information about the history and geography of coffee and chocolate too. 🌎

The grounds are also beautiful, it was well worth it.

My family and I did the 3 In 1 Coffee/Chocolate/Sugar Cane Tour, and we had an amazing time!
Our guide was super knowledgeable and made it very fun and entertaining! We were able to walk around the plantation, and even though there were several groups at the same time, it didn't feel crowded. I would highly recommend if you're in Monteverde!

Awesome experience during this chocolate, coffee and night walk! We learned all about the cocoa and coffee bean harvesting process, ate delicious chocolate and saw frogs, moths, spiders and even a SLOTH! So fun like a kid in the woods!

A mellow tour with a thorough discussion of chocolate and coffee. Our tour guide had a dry sense of humor that we enjoyed. we went in April. It was warm but we were in the shade almost the entire time in tasting rooms or under awnings. We made lemonade too because they also grow sugarcane. Recommend!!
