Quepos Medical Center / Centro Medico Quepos

Unfortunately I had a fall on a dirt road and injured my wrist. Fortunately my husband and I discovered Quepos Urgent Care which wasn't far away from where we staying in Manuel Antonio. Although there was no one there when we arrived - the website advertised their opening hours until 10pm, a doctor arrived after our phone call to them. Edgar, the doctor arrived very quickly, was kind, efficient and professional. He spoke excellent English and was able to explain my injury in perfect English. The surgery was spotlessly clean with up to date technology. I was given an xray and appropriate painkillers. I am extremely grateful to have received such excellent care. I would thoroughly recommend his services to anyone.

The center is nice and efficient. Kudos to nurse Fercy who is a most compassionate person and capable professional. She keeps the treatment areas spotless and is very kind to the patients (I spent three mornings in the center after I developed severe vomiting and dehydration after the first doctor I saw gave me too much medication). Also kudos to Dr. Edgar who recognized the seriousness of the situation and gave very sensible recommendations, and discussed the follow up treatment with me and my mother. I would recommend the place highly.

I needed to visit the medical center while in Quepos and I am so thankful there was such a beautiful clinic close by. Dr Edgar was fantastic. He speaks perfect English, is kind and reassuring, and did a very thorough exam. I didn't have to wait at all, and it was easy to obtain my prescriptions from the pharmacy down the road. Dr. Edgar is absolutely amazing and saved our trip. During our long visit to Costa Rica, I suffered from a severe heat stroke. This was the first time I experienced something like this, and it was very scary. As soon as my partner spoke with Dr. Edgar on the phone while I was completely dehydrated and shaking, I knew I was in good hands. He arrived very quickly to the hotel, treated me quickly and efficiently, and stated by my side for 4 hours until I felt much better. He was so relaxing and professional, listened to everything I had to say, and helped me relax. The best and most kind doctor I have ever encountered, hands down. I wish I had a doctor back home who is so professional, kind, and dedicated.

My husband saw dr Edgar Arce today. We were quite nervous of seeing someone unknown to us. What a pleasant surprise such amazing treatment . He was reassuring, professional, friendly and gained our confidence immediately. We would recommend him and the clinic easily. Thank you Edgar

This clinic is exceptional! Both myself and my wife have been there for our primary care since we moved to Quepos. All of the staff are professional and highly knowledgable, offering high quality care!! Thank you, Dr. Gannon, Dr. Arce, Dr. Rodrigo, Fercy (our nurse ) and Brenda, who is amazing with our scheduling and billing. A great team who we appreciate so very much!!

I was in the care of Dr. Arce and the Quepos Medical Center team in early 2024. As a traveler in a new country and without speaking Spanish, it could be overwhelming to navigate a medical event. But I was very well taken care of by Dr. Arce and the nurse (I forgot her name). The care team explained the treatment plan, were patient with me, and informed me of the examination findings. I'm very grateful that I had the chance to work with Quepos Medical Center. Thank you for everything.

Due to a bad infection, I needed urgent care in Quepos. All the doctors and staff were responsive and knowledgeable..overall very caring and highly professional I especially am thankful for Fercy, my nurse, who is clearly dedicated to her patients! She is highly skilled and attentive ... a true gem to the nursing profession!!

I was attacked by a monkey in Manuel Antonio and was worried about the potential for infection. The Doctor put my worries at ease, and quickly prescribed me medication for the wound. He was very kind, spoke English very well, and the clinic was well kept and organized. Would highly recommend this clinic for urgent needs.

Dr. Mariajose Lizano and her Secretary Brenda Gonzalez are the most helpful people on Costa Rica amongst all the Ticos and Ticas. If you have any urgent care needs, please come and see them first. Thank you ladies for all of your medical expertise and help.

My husband took ill with flu and pneumonia. Dr Edgar Arce went above and beyond with his care treating him at the clinic and visiting the hotel on numerous occasions. He was able to keep him out of hospital and get him fit to fly home. Without his diligence and commitment this would have been a very different experience. I fully recommend his care and clinic.

We had to get our 1 year old daughter to do an urgent XRay after she fell, and she had a broken bone. The staff was so gentle and kind ! They help us trough the all process ! I really recommend this place if you have any urgent care !

All the doctors are outstanding. Caring and competent. Most recently Dr. Maria Lizano has been our doctor and she could not be better.

My husband (Jeff) and I were visiting Costa Rica for the first time and stayed at a lovely tropical resort near Manuel Antonio. On a horseback riding trip I sustained an insect bite on my ankle that swelled painfully. The beautiful Manuel Antonio is also very wet and a number of mold spots were visible in the building we were staying at. Over a couple of days I started to experience difficulty in breathing and inflammation. Given pre-existing conditions such as of rheumatoid arthritis, Lyme’s disease and mold/biotoxin sensitivity I wasn’t sure what was causing my reactions and how serious they could become. We decided to reach out to the hotel concierge at 8pm who recommended Costa Rica MediRed in Quepos.

One of the kindest and most patient doctors I have ever met, Dr. Edgar Acre, arrived within an hour to begin treating me. The remarkable thing was the way he observed and listened carefully to all my medical history without being in a rush to make conclusions. Dr. Acre evaluated me as a whole person for over an hour and wasn’t dismissive of anything I said. He honored my experience, opinions and the fears that I was feeling. He left for the evening assuring I wasn’t in immediate danger and that we could do follow up tests in the morning at the clinic.

Next morning, we visited the small but immaculate office in Quepos for lab work and x-rays. The clinic staff along with Dr. Arce were efficient and comfortable to work with. Before we were on our way to next destination Dr. Acre made a number of points important to my long-term health.

I am very grateful for the support from Dr. Acre and his staff and wish that I could experience more of this style of care from the medical system in the United States.

Dr Edgar got us in and out, was very proficient, and gave us what we needed. he was able to contact our travel insurance to ask if a certain test would be covered. the clinic was empty when we got there at 8am the receptionist and doctor were 10/10 and both spoke excellent english.

Developed an abscess and was seen very promptly by a nurse for observations and then Dr Kevin Gannon for history and examination. The Dr was very kind and thorough, the clinic was very well looked after, modern and air conditioned throughout. I left with a comprehensive and easy to understand plan with a prescription and was signposted to the pharmacy just up the road. Everyone spoke English from the receptionist to the nurse and the doctor. It offers a walk-in service and a call out service too. Excellent clinic if you do unfortunately need one on holiday.

I was looking for a second option for a wound that wasn’t healing after six weeks of consistent medical attention so I decided to book an appointment. I was grateful that I did as they have a wound care specialist on staff and a highly recommended physician (who speaks excellent English) that was knowledgeable and quick for treatment. I’ve healed in a quarter of the time and my scar will be significantly minimized due to their great care. I would highly recommend this location for your medical needs.

I usually don’t give reviews but I had to give this clinic 5 stars. We were on vacation with my husband and my mom. Long story short my mom got food poisoning and we took her to Quepos Medical Center. I was amazed how quickly Dr. Edgar Arce helped my mother. My mother was in very bad condition and Dr. Edgar knew exactly what to do without hesitation. The help he provided was quick. From my experience since I’m from LA doctors help you but leave you alone for a long time while they are busy with something else but Dr. Edgar spent every second with my mom watching her symptoms change and resolving them right on the spot. My mom spent 5 hours in the clinic and doctor was by her side all this hours, I was very surprised how much care and help he provided to make my mom comfortable. Doctor made sure she was stable and only then let my mother go. Very thankful we found Dr. Edgar, he is very knowledgeable and caring. Before we went back to hotel He gave us instructions how to take medications so she will be able to catch a flight following morning back to LA. I didn’t believe she will be able to do so but Dr was right if we take meds on time she will be good to go and she did. Very big thank you to Dr Edgar.

Dr. Gannon was great! We took in our 4 year old who wasn't feeling well and the nurses and the doctor were great with him. He explained everything clearly to us and answered all our questions. Thank you for such great attention and service!

I am a practicing physician in Canada. When my 7 year old started complaining of severe ear pain during our recent vacation at Manuel Antonio, our hotel strongly recommended this place. We drove over in 10 minutes, and she was assessed immediately. The physician (Dr. Kevin Gannon Vargas) explained everything in detail in PERFECT English, and prescribed necessary medications. Level of care , cleanliness and professionalism easily matched any facility in the western world. I could not recommend this place more. You really shouldn't bother looking anywhere else if you need medical care in Quepos.
