Stella Maris

Spending new years eve in another country is always a lottery. In our case we had just arrived in Denmark at the end of our long roadtrip from Switzerland over the Christmas and New Year week-ends of 2023 and putting up at this elegant country side hotel in the western outskirts of Svendborg was a tempting project. We arrived just before dark and managed to get showered and dressed in our nicely decorated and sober room in time for the Queen's speech to the nation at 6 pm where she declared she would resign and pass on the reign to her son after 52 years as the nation’s leader. After this we were served oysters flushed down with champagne in the bar and then seated for a dinner that was going to last till midnight. It was an interesting observational study of the Danish upper middle class and their eating and drinking habits. There was no real dress code imposed, therefore you could see that some were wearing brown shoes after 6 pm, only recommended if you are planning on going out on a nightly wild boar hunting mission, which was obviously not the case. Food and wine were well matched as one should expect, although being a wine snob myself, I thought there were some not so classy wines being served. Olivia who is not eating meat had the giant Wellington beef replaced by a matching turbot dish, a really nice treat by the kitchen. For us the evening ended with a beautiful fire work just in front of our eyes. The rain had stopped minutes before midnight and allowed us to enjoy the scenery from the hotel terrace. We did not join the other guests for their night caps since we had to be up early for breakfast and our final day bringing us to Copenhagen. Like always with breakfast in Denmark you have the option to cure your hangover with a bitter, in our case three variants. Sooo traditional...
Finally, our compliments to the staff for putting up with everybody's habits with a smile; very professional. And the rooms feature the world’s longest shoehorns, a tribute to their guest population.

If you come to Denmark and you do not stay at Stella Maris then you have missed something special. From the food to the rooms and the view and location, all were wonderful, but the best thing are the staff - they are exceptional. This was our first time to Denmark and we will come back again soon, and definitely be staying at this hotel again. Not to be missed!

The hotel impressed us with its remarkable attention to detail. Every corner of the property, including small decorative items, appeared to have been thoughtfully selected and cared for.

We were pleasantly surprised by the exceptional quality of the rooms, bar area, dining area, and outdoor seating. The view from our room overlooking the canal was outstanding.

The food and service were excellent, and our group felt genuinely welcomed. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, which featured French-inspired cuisine of Michelin-star quality.

Our sole regret was that we couldn't stay longer. Without hesitation, the Stella Maris is among my top boutique hotel favorites from all my travels.

If I ever find myself in the vicinity again, the Stella Maris will be my go-to destination for both lodging and dining.

Superb location in quiet relaxed surroundings, delicious hotel with a wonderful bar and restaurant with a great view and comfortable chairs. Nice rooms with the necessities that should be there. The food is exquisite and delicious, using seasonal food, locally produced.
All the staff, from the Hotel Director Lui to the cleaning staff were sweet and welcoming and all exudes a super wonderful relaxed and embracing workplace, which to that extent rubs off on us guests. We will definitely be back.
Short walking distance to lovely and cosy Svendborg, from where you can also take a boattrip to some of the small islands close to Svendborg

We had a great stay at Stella Maris. The location is spectacular with beautiful views of the water (Svenborg Sound) from our room as well as from the restaurant. The staff was extremely friendly and the food (dinner as well as breakfast) was phenomenal. We had an extremely enjoyable experience and will definitely come back to Stella Maris

Hotel Stella Maris is Paradise! We have spent a week at this amazing and beautiful hotel. The hotel manager Lui Haas Jensen and his staff made our stay unforgettable. The location of the hotel is fantastic with a spectacular view . The food and wine served in the restaurant was so delicious and outstanding. We will definitely come back to this beautiful place and thank the staff for making our vacation so pleasant and wonderful.

Stella Maris is a hotel with a cafe, bar and restaurant open to the public without any need to have booked a room to use them. The atmosphere is great, relaxing, quiet and overall ideal for someone that needs to work remotely or just come in relax, have a cup of coffee or some lunch. The staff is really friendly and accommodating. I went in thinking I was going to be denied because I have not booked a room and I ended up spending 5 hours drinking coffee, working from my laptop, eating lunch, enjoying a beer and taking a stroll by the beach.
Highly recommended for anyone either looking for a rest stop or a hotel to spend the night.

The perfect getaway in the southern part of fyn. Absolutely idyllic, peaceful and delicious food.

We really enjoyed our stay at Stella Maris. The area is calm and the waterfront is beautiful. Thanks to the bikes provided by the hotel, Svendborg is only a couple of minutes away. The room is nicely furnished and comfortable. Delicious breakfast! I will come back.

We have had our wedding at Stella Maris in August 2015 and it was just a perfect experience. We really felt like being with friends and not in a hotel. Probably the best compliment that you can give a hotel. Especially the General Manager Peter Ibsen, the F&B chef Kim and the entire service staff including Jacob did a terrific job. They have been at the forefront at all times and worked very hard to please us and make this wedding a once in a lifetime experience. Everybody walked the extra mile for us.

The hotel Stella Maris is absolutely wonderful. It is a very charming, lovely and stylish boutique hotel with a very good eye for the details. The rooms are kept in a very nice Scandinavian interior design. From most of the rooms and the terrace you can see the Svendbørg sund and it gives you the feeling of being right by the sea.

The restaurant and the food is fantastic and sustainable. The ingredients are very local or being delivered from the island Vejrø where they grow vegetables, pork, eggs etc. that are being used in the cuisine. Some of our guests mentioned that this was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. Also the a l a carte menu is excellent. We have not had a single menu that wasn't great.

Also if you have time we would also recommend you to visit Vejrø, stay over in the lovely rooms and eat at the skipperly. There you can see and experience how the ingredients are being grown and kept.

If you plan your wedding or just want to stay for a romantic weekend escape and want a wonderful hotel in a great location with competent, experienced, service oriented staff and fantastic local food - go there! We would do it any time again.

Beatiful little hotel, a hidden gem on the south coast of Fyn. Classic decoration with a modern feel, very well kept, very nice rooms, beatiful setting and the sea view. Very good and friendly service, both at the hotel and in the restaurant. We felt welcome and "at home" from the very first day. Because the hotel is not so big (around 30 rooms), it feels very cosy and the service is more personal compared to many other larger hotels. Food in the restaurant also very good, especially dinner. Would definitely come back, either as a weekend get-away or for a longer stay to relax and unwind.

Cozy hotel in an old building with a modern twist. Direct ocean access from the front lawn and an amazing view from many of the rooms. Great food and drinks👌

Serene, relaxing and rather simple hotel rooms (no AC, miniscule TV, no fridge, no amenities but an exceptionally friendly team of employees and a great chef.

This time visiting this place in a team event abt. 35 guests. Very good service, very good food, exceptional sorroundings and nice atmosphere.

The food was great, had a delicious five course dinner. The wine and service was amazing as well.
