I've rented many vehicles internationally, and I have to say this was one of my best experiences. Joyce was very easy to work with and straightforward. An issue came up and I was able to painlessly swap my vehicle.

One of the worst car rental experiences I have ever had. Made a reservation online several months prior to my travel, price was great. Went to pick up the car at 8am, which is when the counter is supposed to open. Both agents were late by 30 minutes. Super long check in process and I find out that my new price is going to be almost 5 times (!!) more than my initial reservation. They ended up wasting almost 2 hours of my time, but I still had to take the car to be on time at my destination. Charged me several times more than what I had reserved. Trying to get a refund from Hertz now, after my travel. Beware, this is not a corporate Hertz location, it's a franchise, so you can expect different level of customer service. Give yourself plenty of time for any unexpected issues. Or don't rent from this place.

I have been renting cars for many years and this place has been problems on three out of four occasion's. And it will be my last!! very unprofessional very bad condition cars, big problems, stay far away.
For example;
I was talking with the girl behind the counter about the fact that they had a policy that would help me and they would not put it in writing. So it turned into a little awgument and she said she would call the police....

Long story short, I don't recommend! The lady at the counter was very impatient the first time I met her at the airport, even though I asked her only 2 or 3 yes/no questions at my arrival. I thought she was probably tired because it was late. When I met her at the time of taking the car, at 10.30 AM, two days after, she had the same impatient attitude and it was even worse because I had many more questions. She explained fast and it wasn't clear. Even though my girlfriend and I are native spanish speakers, we didn't fully understand. She was rude and we felt like we were annoying her. The insurance costs are not clear and expansive. I reserved the car online (great price) and took the time to read the conditions. I never understood that it was mandatory for me to pay Hertz a 22 USD$/day for liability insurance. The lady finally explained us how it worked after insisting. While browsing travel forums after, we read that it is a common practice in DR. We were happy with the Ford Figo 2017 we rented and it was helpful for our road trip between Puerto Plata, Samaná and Punta Cana. The only reason why I choosed Hertz was because my MasterCard apparently offers a "discount" with them. Fortunately, staff had a better attitude in Punta Cana. I will never deal again with the Hertz lady in Puerto Plata.

I reserved the Suzuki Vitara for 180$ in Hertz site, but when I arrived they wanted to charge me 260$
After one hour of complaining they lowered the price to 200$
Even after that, they didn't have available the Suzuki Vitara or similar size, and offered to us the smaller car.
After all we canceled, and rented the car to another company.
