Hacienda El Porvenir by Tierra del Volcán

One of my favorite hotels during my 2 week trip in Ecuador. Ditch all the other hotels by Cotopaxi and consider this one! You’ll thank me later!

The rooms were great, the common area was cozy and outside the hacienda there’s hammocks and llamas for you to visit and unwind while looking at the gorgeous views of Cotopaxi.

The food at the hotel was delicious and the service that’s provided to us was fantastic. I’d recommend trying the hot chocolate with cheese for those cold nights during your stay.

The staff was a pleasure to meet and the front desk worker was very informative and told us about the history of the beautiful hacienda we’re staying at.

The best service provided by the hotel was the horse back riding. They provide a helmet chaps and most importantly a poncho.

I’d recommend devoting a day for that excursion to really have all the time to look a learn about the beautiful environment. Our guide was so informative and patient with us.

We had an awesome and amazing experience here. The room was spacious and the staff was very attentive. When I was feeling under the weather due to the altitude they made sure to check in on me as well as providing me with some tea to help me feel better. The empanada class was awesome and my family enjoyed the trail ride. We all hope to get back to visit again in the future.

Had a fantastic experience at El Porvenir with my family. Rooms were rustic but in a really nice way. We loved the wood burning heating and the nice attention for bed heaters put under our blankets just before going to bed. Staff has been super nice and restaurant deserves a Michelin star (not kidding, and I am French!). Nicolas our guide took us for a 6 hours amazing hike where we were able to watch condors flying above our heads. He always adapted to our poor fitness condition by walking at our pace. Also special mention to the cooking class where my entire family enjoyed preparing canelazo and empanada con queso. Absolutely delicious.

This place was incredible! The setting is beautiful but what really stood out was the staff and service. They went above and beyond and showed so much care when someone in our party was sick. Kind humans, amazing location, great vibes.

I just came here to rent a mountainbike for the day to cycle around Cotopaxi. It's a beautiful place! The staff is very friendly and welcoming. When I came back I sat next to the fireplace and was offered a nice tea and had an amazing lunch. I'll come back here and stay overnight next time.

We had a great experience here, including the tours, food, room - everything.

We loved our stay here. We were celebrating our anniversary and they had flowers, chocolates, and a sweet message waiting for us (all complimentary). Their room #1 is cozy and a great place for couples. We were welcomed with complimentary empanadas (delicious) and canelazo (also delicious). They lit the fireplace for us because it was a cold afternoon. There was a small problem with our bath, so they offered us a free hour in the Spa, which was wonderful. I had a massage that was super relaxing. The food is incredible, Andean fusions and modern takes on classic Ecuadorian dishes. Our favorites were the pumpkin seed encrusted trout and pork tacos. They have a ton of activities. We walked the red path, which went past a beautiful waterfall. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend the place.

This place was one of the highlights of our time in Ecuador! The setting is beautiful and the activities provided kept us busy. We did a day tour to Cotopaxi with a guide provided by the hotel and had a great time learning about the history of the park and the local communities. We also did a horseback riding tour, spent some time at the spa, and did a self guided hike around the property. The food was great and the staff was very friendly. We did not have any issue communicating in English as other reviewers mentioned.

Cozy hacienda, great facilities, friendly and accommodating staff, amazing surroundings!
Gorgeously located close to the northern entrance of Cotopaxi national park. However, the road to El Porvenir takes almost an hour by car on small bumpy, dirt- and cobblestone roads from Machachi - it's a rough drive.
We had a cozy and clean room, the staff kept the fireplace busy in the evening, and the common living rooms were very nice.
A great variety of activities are offered here, horseback riding, hikes, mountain bike rental and trails, cooking classes in Spanish, the list goes on.
The food in the restaurant varied quite a lot, some dishes were very tasty and delicious, such as the pork and beef dishes, but some of the corn were quite boring.
The facilities include a small spa and sweat lodge. The spa pools were great, but the sweat lodge never got hot when we visited.

Tks sommuch for everything. We (family 5 member) enjoyed so much . Horse activity and spa were fabulous

What a magnificent place!! The authentic atmosphere, the natural scenery, friendly staff, cosy rooms. Food is absolutely delicious !!! Horse riding here is a must-do! Tea during and after your horse riding trip! Ecuadorian hospitality at its best !!

Beautiful hacienda with great service (there's a hot water bottle in your bed disposed by the staff as you go into your room, very nice attention).
Our entire group of 8 was sick with food poisoning and the hosts were kind enough to prepare herbal tea to soothe our stomachs and help us recover.

There's a view of Cayambe and Cotopaxi on clear days which is stunning.

Great place to visit and enjoy the nature and breathtaking mountain landscapes, they offer several options for lodging at different and affordable price ranges with outstanding service and quality.

Hacienda Porvenir will acomodate you and all your requests, they have a large variety of activities which include but are not limited to Horseback riding tours, rope courses, hot tub, sauna, bicycle tours, walks, and plenty more.

The food is very tasty and friendly to any kind of diet since they offer vegan and other diets alternatives.

Our stay here was outstanding and 10/10 would recommend and would definitely repeat this experience with a beautiful view of the andes.

Wonderful hostal to stay at during my trip to Cotapaxi. Very simple rooms encouraged the use of the common rooms by the fire to relax on couches, drink complementary tea, and engage with other guests. The food provided is delicious. All meals are very creative and unique.

Best kept secret in the Andeas! It is hidden away very close to the National Park, tucked away in charming hills.
This hacienda is also a working finca with horses, lamas and cows. It is idyllic in every sense.
Best of all are the people who work here!
And don't forget to book the onsite spa!

Me and boyfriend took a horse ride tour. We had a little accident when a bike rider went down too fast when we were going up. Our horses got scared and one drop my boyfriend. Fortunately, he didn’t felt hard and we could keep going (although we were afraid) On the way back, the guys at the desk asked us to fill a form with the info about the accident and they end up giving the money back for my boyfriends tour. They couldn’t do more since we had a doctor let a doctor check if everything was ok. Other than that we certainly enjoyed the tour. We recommend it!

My family and I stayed at Hacienda El Porvenir during the violent eruption of Cotopaxi on Friday, August 14, 2015. Jorge the owner and the staff ensured we were kept up-to-date on the status of the volcano and assured us that the location of the hacienda was safe. They all did a tremendous job during a stressful time and I cannot thank them enough for making this a remarkably memorable trip. The comfort of El Porvenir, professionalism of the staff, and nearby activities mentioned by other reviewers goes without saying.
