Handicrafts Market Antigua

This is an old old fashioned open market in downtown Antigua. It covers about one half acre. There are over 200 stalls with cute little things to sell to tourists. The vendors want you to bicker to bring the price down. It's part of the game. Very few of the items are hand crafted. Most appear to be imported. They prefer you use local currency. There are plenty of places in the city to exchange your dollars for local money.

You can find a great variety of tipical Guatemalan handmade items. Prices are great.

I love this place. All the crafts and arts, the wonderful array of items and their vendors,.all the colors and smells, this place was magical. I enjoyed not just walking around and shopping but engaging with the vendors and shopkeepers was also wonderful. You can find anything and everything whether it's for yourself or for a great gift. Everyone is super friendly but I highly recommend you haggle the prices as they are always trying to get the most out of you but do not let that deter you from engaging them, thay are very respectful and friendly.

super fun, a lot bigger than i expected. different flavor than a lot of other markets i have been to. be prepared to haggle, but most of the prices turn out pretty reasonable by the end. lots of shade, which can be nice in the afternoon. only thing i definitely wouldn't buy is a machete, since i'm pretty sure they come straight from a local hardware store, lol.
