If you’re overwhelmed with the boot options in Pastores, go see Roberto and his family at Vasmo!
We took the 5Q chicken bus from Antigua and walked around to the many shops, but couldn’t find anything we loved. We walked into Vasmo and Roberto greeted us and was very patient with my limited Spanish. As my boyfriend was trying on dress shoes, Roberto noticed that we were sweating and sent his son across the street to get us some cold bottled water! My boyfriend couldn’t find the right size, so Roberto offered to measure his feet and make a custom pair. (The measurements were thorough and Roberto even was able to explain the differences in his feet which explained why shoes seldom fit him well.) He ended up ordering a pair of boots and a pair of dress shoes. An hour later, after some more wandering around, I actually went back to Vasmo to let Roberto know that we’d had, by far, the best experience at his shop and to ask if he could make a pair for me (even though he had mostly men’s shoes in the shop). He sure could!
We visited Vasmo on a Saturday and he delivered our shoes to us in Antigua on Thursday evening, despite it being Holy Week with a lot of traffic and activity. Our shoes are beautiful, fit perfectly, and are clearly made to last. They are nicer than any of the leather shoes that we have bought in Italy. Roberto is a man who truly loves his craft and is passionate about what he does, and I will absolutely visit him again (with an empty suitcase) the next time that I am back in Guatemala.

Very friendly and informative owner, with a broad selection of quality, hand made, contemporary styles. If you’re staying in Antigua, this shop and many other boot makers are a short 5Q bus ride.

Guatemalan boots are a great souvenir with prices you won’t be able to match back home (e.g., Canada/US).
