Kalnik - vrh Vranilac

Excellent peak to visit. It is possible to take kids with you.

This mountain is very beautiful. The view is spectacular!!! For a amateur climber this is the percfect hill to climb. The nature is well preserved and you don't need heavy equipment to climb. Visit the ruins of the old city as well. Kalnik is awesome!!!

Great montain for hiking/climbing

A relatively isolated mountain in northern Croatia with the summit reaching 643 m.a.s.l. Nevertheless, Kalnik is very attractive due to it's prominence, features and geologic characteristics. Alpine and Dinaride tectonic subplates collide here to form Kalnik's rocky (limestone and dolomite) ridge. A large TV/radio transmitter near the peak makes it even more recognizable from afar. Numerous paths lead to the peak and the hike can be easily made by both children and the elderly. Probably the most attractive approach is "Staza 7 zubi" which starts at the mountain lodge parking lot and goes along the ridge ("7 rocky teeth") all the way to the summit. This path is also dangerous in some places and requires climbing skills. Another climbing option is a technically very difficult Via Ferrata just next to the radiotransmitter. It is 60m long and covers an elevation of 40m. Finally, peak Vranilac offers a 360 view of the surrounding cities and mountains.

Great mountain! It look smalls and short but man the rocks (7 zubi) track is challeging!

Beautiful Croatia. There are so many parts of Croatia which are not known to general public, Kalnik is one of them. Unspoiled old growth forests, clean air, plenty of hiking and biking trails, and all so quiet, no roads or industry near by, just farms and pastoral villages.

Amazing 360° views, easy to reach from the hut Kalnik.

If you are fond of climbing but not really an experienced climber, this is a good hill to conquer. You'll need half an hour or one hour maybe, but the views up there is amazing.

You start your climb by going left upstairs near the restaurant. Sometimes you will cross the street. Last part is a bit tougher but it's worth it.

The view on one side is the flat land and some towns, and forest fields are on the other side.

Beautiful view. The climb is not so hard so you don't need any special equipment.

Great 360° view of the surrounding landscape: there's Sljeme to the SW, Ivančica to your W and Varaždin and Međimurje to the N.

Path from the mountain house to the top Vranilac across the ridge is for experienced mountaineers. I recommend south approach for less experienced hikers.
