Mery is fantastic, a real treasure! She is not only a valuable source of information on Berastagi - things to see and do, how to get around, or onward to your next destination - but also a great organizational talent. Communication is fast and excellent. She runs her guesthouse in such a friendly and professional manner that it's easy to forget that the rooms may be missing some (not significant) comforts, such as a reading light above the bed, some extra hooks or hangers for clothes, or a table.
That said, our room was nice and tidy and super clean. When it wasn't cloudy we had a view from our window; if we didn't want to hear the early morning prayers, we could close it soundproof. Our room had its own bathroom (hot water), which we thought was a plus. Breakfast is good and Mery bakes delicious pizzas on request.
Rightly praised as the best budget option in town. Absolutely recommended!

The only downside we found the location. Jl. Veteran (the main street) is overcrowded, noisy, dusty and far from relaxing. Happily Nachelle Homestay is located in a quiet side alley.

Had a nice 1 night stay at Nachelle homestay. The owner was friendly and flexible. It is a three-story house with many rooms. The balcony offers a great spot to hang dry clothes and enjoy a beautiful sunset with a mountain view. The living room had a water dispenser but the hot water wasn't working during our visit. WiFi is available only on the 1st and 2nd floors, not reaching the 3rd floor. Breakfast is available if you pre-order. Overall, a cozy and welcoming place.

Loved my stay at Nachelle Homestay. The room was really comfortable and clean, great hot water shower. Mery was very responsive and helpful on WhatsApp before my arrival (booked via WhatsApp too) and then during my stay also super helpful on WhatsApp when put exploring. The info and tips Mery gave on check in really helped make a difference to my trip, recommending foods to try and what markets to go to etc. The view from the roof top is INCREDIBLE! Definitely worth getting up early and seeing just as sun is rising, I enjoyed doing yoga up there early morning too. Location is a little further out of town but it's a 10 min walk or can very easily flag down the little local buses that are always going past every few minutes. Mery will give you all the info. The coffee at breakfast was the best I'd tried in Berastagi, and I actively seek out good coffee! Highly recommend staying here.

Mery and Abdi are definition class hosts and hospitality focused. We would have been very sad and confused in Berastagi if not for their help and explanations. At arrival Berastagi city is not very friendly nor easy to understand.

However, Mery helped us right away with a hand drawn map, bus explanations, and even how to order food in the local language. She helped us get our laundry dry cleaned and made sure it was delivered to us safely when we changed to another accommodation. Unfortunately, our beautiful room with private bath was not available for both our nights.

For the night we did stay at their home stay, We enjoyed a peaceful nights sleep in the very clean accommodations and enjoyed the sunrise volcano tour with her husband Abdi. You can see the video of this beautiful experience!! His stories and jokes were extra appreciated to understand the region and hear about life from a locals perspective. We used his taxi service as well where he helped us explore the surrounding hills of Berastagi before we felt ready to try the bus routes :-) overall we are so fortunate to meet these great people and we HIGHLY recommend you stay or do the volcano tour with them!

Beautiful homestay made with love! The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed relaxing in the common area.
The owner Mery was very friendly and helpful with good English skills and we loved the breakfast! Mery arranged transportation to Lake Toba and helped us a lot to find stores or ATMs we were looking for. Overall great value for money :)

Meri and Abdy are such wonderful welcoming hosts who do an amazing job introducing you to the area. They both speak English well and have lots of information to share. We did the sunrise volcano hike with them and really enjoyed it- definitely recommend! We also loved watching sunset from their roof surrounded by all the volcanoes. Thank you for such kind hospitality!

Our room was large and super clean, with a large ensuite bathroom and very good Wifi. Mery is a fantastic host who helped us with transport to and from the homestay. She also organized two local tours for us (with her husband Abdy as guide) and gave us lots of local information. Abdy was a great and fun guide for our sunrise volcano trek and to the lake and waterfall. Thank you Mery and Abdy, you really made our stay in Berastagi wonderful! 🙏

Expect more like a guesthouse than a homestay.
We stayed two nights in the family room.
The room was very spacious, clean and had a bathroom with reliable hot water.

The view from the rooftop is amazing, you can see both vulcanoes

Mery really is the ideal host.
She can arrange everything for you: breakfast, laundry, tours and transfers, …
She provides you with a personalized map.

We had two transfers and one tour arranged by Mery and all three were reliable, careful drivers.

You will be welcomed like family here. Meri and Abdi are excellent hosts, couldn't be more helpful. The children are smiley too. Meri sat down with us when we arrived and helped us plans our days here. We did a walk with Abdi as our guide and had a wonderful morning climbing the volcano and going to the hot springs. The homestay is very clean, the sheets and bedding are fresh and the bed was comfortable. The breakfasts are good and there is water on tap to refill your containers. There wasn't any WiFi in the room but there is a comfortable seating area to relax in where there is WiFi. All in all we'd highly recommend this homestay.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Homestay with Mery and her husband. The room was spacious and very clean. Mery is exceptionally well organized and will help you with everything. Also enjoyed the volcano tour as well as a private trip to Sipiso Piso and Lake Toba a lot. Highly recommended!

Thank you for a great stay at Nachelle Homestay. This place is driven by Mery and her family. It's a lovely family and they made me feel very welcome during my stay of three nigts. Mery provided detailed information about points of interests in the area.

This place was very clean, in fact the cleanest I have found during my 4 week's travel in Sumatra. The hot shower is a big plus.

There is an Indomaret just outside for shopping snacks. It's possible to order pizza at the homestay, but unfortunately I did not have a chance to try it, but it looks delicious from the pictures.

Free clean cold and hot water is offered for bottle refill, coffee or noodle soup.

The rooftop is amazing with a good view of the surrounding volcanoes and various agriculture.

Public busses leave just outside of the hostel going to Lake Toba, Medan, Hot Springs and Mount Sibayak. Mery also offered a guided tour to Mount Sibayak for a fair price.

The only small minus for me, was that in my room the power outlet was far from the bed, but I'm sure an extra extension cord would be available, if I had asked.

I would not hesitate coming back here next time I go to this lovely city.

We stayed here just for one night. The best service we had in all Indonesia.
As soon as we arrived, Mery explained us how to move around the area, show us the main attractions, recommend where to eat and how to communicate that we were vegetarians. A full detailed explanation including map, references and price for local transport.
Also helped us in our adventure to go all the way from Berastagi to Parapat in local buses, again with full explanation and detailed prices.

The breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit. Not included and you have to organise the day before with them.

The rooms, super clean and comfortable. As well as all the establishment.

Location: was a bit tricky to find, and it’s in a pretty local area, not the nicest area in Berastagi if you compare with the residential area up the hill. BUT is super easy to get transport and move around from the homestay, even if you wanna walk is not far from the markets and monuments.

Would highly recommend Nachelle homestay. Very clean, comfortable, hot shower, and they helped us with everything. We did the sunrise volcano tour through them and it was amazing. Mary is great, and makes delicious pizza. They even helped us arrange a ride to our next location.

A bit hard to find at first, it's behind Indomarket on a parking place.

We stayed in de 3rd floor super king size bed, with 2 extra natrasses on our floor. The room has volcano view, but only through small room at eye level.

The room and bathroom are both very clean. A good bed.

Mery is so kind and so helpful with everything (Both before our stay as during our stay).

We did the Sinabung day trip and the Sibayak sunrise tour with our kids of 10 and 5. Both very nice. The Sibayak is a bit steep climb at first, but it was okay for the 5yr old.

Mery and Abdy literally saved our vacation on Sumatra. After we ran in difficulties pretty much everything on Sumatra, this was a nice refreshment. Note: they both speak very good English.
We contacted Mery on WhatsApp to arrange us a taxi from Singkil to Berastagi after our previous taxi driver tried to rob us. From the moment we stepped in the homestay (which is more like a family hotel than homestay) we knew that we hit jackpot.
Mery was the first person ever in whole SE Asia to sat us around the table and explained everything on the map, gave us some important translations and tips. They can organize multiple excursions around the area so just ask her what are you interested in. The rooms are more than fine for a homestay and everything was really clean. You can have breakfast and also pizza for later and it was one of the best pizza that we had in Indonesia.
The first day we chose Sipiso Piso waterfall and the taxi driver Ramli was waiting for us even before 9am (a rare event in Indonesia because nothing is not even close on schedule) and spoke very good English (also a rarity here). When we stopped for a coffee and went on he was making sure that we didn't forget anything on the table. After the beautiful Sipiso Piso he was waiting for us and drive us to RM dan Penginapan Sitopsi restaurant for lunch. That lunch was our best price/quality ratio meal ever!! We took Tilapia fish, freshwater lobsters, cap cay, two portions of french fries, nasi goreng (fried rice) and 3 drinks and payed only 17.5€!!! Unbelievable for such a delicious meal. Ramli is the best taxi driver that we ever had and if you happen to go there be sure to ask for him.
The second day Abdy lead us to Sibayak vulcano. We started when it was dark and after around 1h we got on top before sunrise. The view is really breathtaking and you can see nearby vulcano Sinabung, city of Medan and much more. He then took us inside the crater to see and feel the steam that is coming out from it, boiling water and sulfur rocks. After that we went to take a bath at the hot water springs at one of the many places below the vulcano. The only thing that ruined this visit was the stares from locals and a lady who was chasing me around and filming me with her phone all the time we were there. Just to be aware if you go there..
We usually don't go in a homestay but if you are in Berastagi don't even look for other accommodation because if you maybe get a nicer room somewhere else, the hospitality, excursion options and tips will surpass that many times. With such care of their guests and honesty it would be shame to miss it.

In one word - fantastic!!!!
Mery and her husband Abdy were doing an absolute lot to make our stay as good any how possible! They arranged tours, gave recommendations and hosted in such a lovely and friendly way that we really felt a warm welcome! They also work together with a great driver, he drove us to the waterfall, the lake toba and the airport the next day. We have never had such a great, respectful, calm and responsible driver - cheers also for that.
We would love to stay with you again!

The house n rooms r very clean. Host stay at ground floor while guests stay at 2nd n 3rd floor. The host n hostess r both very helpful. As usual there s no ceiling fan, so, it's very depending on the weather on whether it's cooling or not🤣
View on top of the roof is ideal for photo taking.
There's regular buses at rph3000 to go to town which is 20 min walking distance away, for local market, fruit market, street food, etc.
Wifi will not b available at 3rd floor when we stay there.

Mery and Abdi made our stay in Berastagi fantastic. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice view of Sibayak and Sinabung. You can go up to the roof for great views as well. Breakfast was excellent and always ready at the exact time we requested. The best part about our stay is that Mery really took the time to explain the area to us and give recommendations of things to do, good places to eat, etc. Every restaurant and street food spot that she recommended were so good - the Indian street food vendor she recommended had the best martabak and nasi goreng I've ever had, and the grilled fish at the spot next to that was fantastic. Mery also helped us arrange tours and transportation during our stay. Abdi was an excellent tour guide. We really enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Berastagi.
