Truly impressive! This is the 2nd largest historical square in the world, after Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
Came early in the morning so I can take plenty of pictures when it's not busy, and it was the best decision. The weather was also perfect with pretty clouds. A perfect day!
The view during the night time was also breathtaking! 😍

Come at night. It's awe-inspiring. One of the Jewels of Iran and the world. Literally translates to masterpiece of the world. Isfahan is a very well conserved historical cities and has a lot to offer. Untouched by over tourism, pristine and wonderful. Don't forget to buy Gaz and some hand-made crafts while there.

Naqsh Jahan Square has a very beautiful and wide space. Walking in the space and historical context is exciting. Especially at sunset, the atmosphere of the markets and the sound of the call to prayer is very interestingو

Naqsh-e Jahan Square (Image of the World Square) , also known as the Shah Square (میدان شاه) prior to 1979 (currently named Imam Khomenei square), is a square situated at the center of Isfahan, Iran. Constructed between 1598 and 1629, it is now an important historical site, and one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites.

The square is surrounded by buildings from the Safavid era. The Shah Mosque is situated on the south side of this square. On the west side is the Ali Qapu Palace. Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is situated on the eastern side of this square and at the northern side Qeysarie Gate opens into the Isfahan Grand Bazaar.

It’s the main attraction in the city, 80% of your time in Isfahan will be spent in this square or its surroundings.

In the weekend, it’s filled with locals who spend their free time here, the vibes of the place are amazing and very welcoming.

It’s also filled with artisan shops, cafes, spice shops, etc.

Visited with family once in the evening and again during the day. It’s an incredible sight to see - full of culture. As the tour guide at Ali Qapu put it, it fulfils 3 purposes of why it was built this way. Faith, economy, culture. Mosques, market stalls, and a cultural, historic experience with the palace on its premises.

Best view is from the terrace of Ali Qapu! You get an incredible overview of the square.

One of the most beautiful squares in the entire country.
It contains 2 mosques, a Palace and a Bazaar (traditional shopping center).
The square was constructed 400+ years ago by Shah Abbas when he moved his Capital from Qazvin to Isfahan.
It's an architectural marvel and a must see for every tourist.
I'd suggest visiting the architectural sites like Ali Qapu Palace, Masjid Shah, and Sheikh Lotf Allah Mosque during day when the shopping center is also open.
I'd also suggest doing a little picnic in the square at night as it is a beautiful when garnished with lights. I've added a few night time shots.

A lovely city center for gathering with restaurants and coffee shops on all sides, a bazaar around the perimeter, a lot of grass for all the Iranians who come to picnic, and horses and carriages. However, there is no shade anywhere so it is better to come at night or late afternoon. For those who want to pray the large mosque is attached and is free during the time of prayer - but to see the main old mosque it is blocked for those who pay (unfortunately).

Equally beautiful at night or during the day, this is one of the most unique places I have ever seen. The atmosphere is great, the shops around offer cheap but beautiful and high quality souvenirs and some main attractions are just few steps away. A must see place if you decide to visit Iran!

It is an enormous area enclosed by the facilities of the old Ali Qapu Palace. There are shops all around, also two mosques and the palace itself to visit. The square becomes a breathtaking place in the evening with the coolness of the air, lights reflecting in the pool, and people chilling out.

Anyone is interested in Persian culture, in particular the Safavid era, Naqshe-e Jahan Square would be one of the best places to explore the legacy of this important era. Ali Qabu Palace, Abbassi Mosque, Shiekh Lotfollah Mosque and every historic building inform the tourist about the luxury of architecture and charming artworks.

One of the most extraordinary places I've ever seen. The architecture here is something beyond my expectation. There are so many surrounding places to see. There are so many such as local traditional markets. In general, Isfahan is the most beautiful city I've seen in Iran. Definitely recommend others to visit the city and definitely will visit it again. Thank you Iran. Love from Oman.
