We cross the park from Mullikulam to Mahavilachchiya while our #roadtrip, road known as ‘Kaju watta road’ through the cashew farming states.

No tickets/ fees charged to go across the park, but your details will be taken down at 02 entrance gates. Recommend 4WD SUV with higher ground clearance as the road condition is pretty bad.

Wilpattu is known for its diverse ecosystems, including dry zone tropical forests, lakes, and wetlands. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, leopards, sloth bears, water buffaloes, and numerous species of birds. The park is characterized by a series of natural lakes, or "villus," which add to its scenic beauty. Wilpattu is renowned for its leopard population, and it is considered one of the best places in Sri Lanka to spot these elusive big cats. The park's dense vegetation provides a suitable habitat for leopards.
The park is a haven for birdwatchers, with a rich avian diversity. Numerous species of water birds, forest birds, and migratory birds can be found here.
