I organised a private tour with my family of 4 with Mr. Khairul. He was very knowledgeable about the history, culture and geography of the area. He told us interesting facts about the ecosystem of mangroves. We saw many different water birds, a few monitor lizards and even an otter during the the daytime boat tour and fireflies during the night boat tour. It is great that Mr. Khairul is environmentally conscious and seems to care about the nature and environment, and conducts tours in an ethical manner, considering the impact of tourism on the ecosystem.

Boss Ken is very friendly and don't mind to spend time to share more information on the nice little town and even bring us to take a look at the homestay under his care. Hope to come back to his daily 7.30pm firefly tour if there's chance in the future.

The tour with Mr Khairul is something I will remember for a long time. He lovingly prepared us breakfast before the trip. Being a city gal, I benefited tremendously from the immersive learning experience with Mr Khairul and discovered alot of things about the local community, animals and environment of Kuala Sepetang. His easygoing personality made the trip pleasant and 'sempoi'. He does not encourage the eagle feeding and he'll tell you why - which tells you that he is the REAL deal. Do yourselves a favor and book him!

My small group of friends really enjoyed the private tour with Encik Khairul Salleh. He was knowledgeable, funny and pointed out so many interesting things to us. We saw otters, lots of egrets, monitor lizards, mud skippers, monkeys and showed us the four different species of mangrove trees. Stumbled upon this private tour service on Google Map while searching for activities to do in Taiping for a family trip. In contact personally with Mr. Khairul Salleh. Since it was a private tour service, time was flexible - which is a plus for a crowd with kids, trying to get ready on time!
Mr. Khairul Salleh is very friendly yet professional, and very knowledgeable in regards to Kuala Sepetang and its neighbourhood.
We took 2 trip packages: daytime trip around Kuala Sepetang & nighttime trip for the fireflies.

Daytime Kuala Sepetang trip:
90min boat trip along the river. We were shown around looking at the fishing industry, the mangrove forest & the coal factory. We landed at the 'Shell Beach' where the kids managed to collect various seashells washed ashore by the local cockle & shellfish industries byproducts. Then we stopped at the fish farm looking at tilapias, horseshoe crabs, pufferfish & mudskippers. Info sharing session by Mr. Khairul Salleh was very informative & interactive. I was very happy that my siblings & the kids were very happy getting involved throughout the trip. We ended the trip watching eagles feeding on the river. Magnificent! Oh, almost forgot the mangrove sapling release into the river with hope of everlasting green ecosystem for the future to enjoy & cherish!

Nighttime firefly trip:
Another memorable trip. One hour session watching fireflies amongst the mangrove trees flashing lights synchronously along the river. We were all in awe by Mr. Khairul Salleh's vast knowledge of the fireflies & the mangrove habitat, and reminded us how crucial & important keeping earth clean & green is to the sustainability of the ecosystem.

All in all, we really enjoyed it & definitely would recommend it! Keep it up, En. Khairul!!!

We took the sunset kelip-kelip & bintang (fireflies and constellation) tour and had a wonderful time. The fireflies were a spectacular sight not to be missed by any nature lover. En Khairul is also an excellent guide. Knowledgable, friendly, and fun --- we learned so much about the mangrove habitat, fireflies, birds, river ecosystem, stars, local geography & history, as well as the local community livelihood and economy. We will definetely come back for other tours with En Khairul. Highly recommended!

Surprised to learn about this beautiful small fishing village. A place worth revisit.

We booked a private tour with Mr. Khairul. He is a wonderful host and a very knowledgeable guide. Breakfast was served on the boat, which was a nice touch. We had a very exciting and pleasant tour of Kuala Sepatang. Khairul talked about the various fishing boats and activities, History of "Port Weld", the various types of birds we saw along the way and Mangrove conservation. We also visited a fish farm. The highlight of the tour was the eagle feeding. We recommend a booking with Khairul, and you can customize your tour or take one of the packages.

I had such a great tour with Khairul! It was only me and I don’t have the budget for a private tour so he made arrangements for me to join a group. He was so knowledgeable about history and also the animals around in the mangroves. Also, when the rest of the group wanted to finish the tour early he agreed to continue on with me to show me more of the mangroves (even though it was low tide and made it difficult). I am so thankful for how he went above and beyond to give me a good experience and enjoy the day.

Very educational boating tour along a river and highly recommended for family trips with kids as Mr Khairul patiently takes time to explain every detail about the places visited and the wildlife in the area. There are several stopovers made and the trip is not rushed as it is a private tour. You get to learn about the different types of fish farming, cockles farming, as well as the various types of boats used in catching different types of seafood. You also get a chance to view different types of coastal birds in the area. There is a stopover at a kelong where you get to feed the fish and also get a chance to hold puffer fish and horse shoe crabs. There is also a cool demo of archer fish hunting their "prey". There is even a "mini ceremony" for everyone to release mangrove seedlings in the river. The trip wraps up with watching the feeding of brahminy kites. You might want to prepare your cameras to capture the action of these kites swooping down over the river. Overall a truly wholesome experience and money well spent. We went over to Rasa Sayang seafood restaurant for lunch ( not part of the trip) as it is just a short walk from the jetty. Their food was great and very affordable. So a wonderful way to conclude your family execursion at Kuala Sepetang

Khairul is a good and informative guide and worth paying for private tours. First we did 2hr birdwatching cruise. We loved seeing the stork-billed kingfisher and went right into the depths of the Mangrove forest which was magical. Then the fireflies trip was amazing as we sailed into a glorious sunset and then the fireflies gave us a wonderful display.

Me n my family had great experience going for a boat tour with Mr Khairul. Very informative yet very ' child friendly' explanation. We had breakfast on the boat too. On time and on point. Highly recommended.

Lovely fisherman town to see eagles, dolphins, fireflies, fish farm and the mangrove. It is best to book a private cruise than to go on a public tour.

We did the evening fireflies tour and it was a wonderful experience. We saw the sunset then took a very relaxing and cooling ride down the river to see the fireflies. The workers were easy to deal with and when we showed up a bit early, they took us around town via the motorbike “bus” for no extra charge.
