St. John De Nepomuceno Parish

A worthy landmark to visit in the idyllic town of Anini-Y. It is one of the highlighted baroque churches in the province of Antique. The churchyard is well maintained, and its interior is tidy. One of the original bells is displayed for tourist to look at.

It’s my second visit here. I love to see old churches because it feels like I am being taken back to the old times.

St. John de Nepomuceno Parish Church is a century old church that is officiated by the mill hill missionaries from England. The parish priest now is the first filipino in this town under the said mission. Some locals said that although the past parish priests were foreigners, they knew the local dialect very well. The Sunday mass schedule is 8:30 A.M. After the parish priest is done in officiating mass from Brgy. San Roque, the mass in Anini-y proper follows. I heard the bell rang one (1) hour before the mass and the faithful locals were coming constantly. I saw some elderly people with cane and wheel chairs and some families entered the Church to attend the mass. I was overwhelmed by the sight I saw in this remote yet religious town. Indeed, attending Sunday masses were their way of life already. St. John de Nepomuceno Parish Church is completely rehabilitated just recently. It is so big for the town's population. So beautiful and historical Church.

Beautiful church, worth a stop if you're passing through the coastal town of Anini-y. Didn't really intend to stop for pictures but riding slowly through the sleepy town, this white structure caught my attention. Quaint and rustic, though some saints were missing, holes where there should've been a statue are empty. Doors were closed when I was there, but don't expect magnificent interiors
