Interpretive center of Arraiolos Carpet

The area surrounding the interpretative centre is one of local history of tapetes. Sight seeing the area gives information on how tapetes are made and how the industry began in Arraiolos. It is a place where you will definitely enjoy being around the locals and enjoying handwoven craftwork. No pictures of any store was taken to protect the designs of carpets, as you would have to go in to enjoy these because each store owner would give you the history and reasoning behind a new carpet or a carpet that is to be repaired and restored to its original state. Also some tapetes are displayed on the street as you would find on banners or posters. It is such a beautiful experience. The Interpretative centre was not opened the day I visited, but around its locations on the walls and on the floor there are so many enchanting details.

Kids and adults can actually do a carpet and you can learn a lot about the local history. Nice atmosphere and quiet.

It's absolutely incredible. If you do not know anything about the history of tapestry from Arraiolos, this is the place you should go. Staff is really gentle and keen to explain and answer all questions.

A must see when visiting the area. Such history! Fascinating.

Nice museum illustrating the history of Arraiolos rugs. They even show some of the ruins found to contain fibers and plant matter that helps to date when carpet making began in Arrailos. Well worth a visit for a euro.

This is a great place to understand the historical roots and the craft itself. Arraiolos has been a center of wool production, tinting, and rug manufacturing for centuries.
It has a castle like so many of the iberian towns whose riches attracted those who'd pilfer. It has a charming urb, made of narrow medieval streets and public spaces at its center.
But best, it has those hand embroidered Arraiolo rugs to marvel at or buy. They have been the property of nobles and bishops, but we mere mortals deserve them too.

Era um dos objetivos da nossa visita a Arraiolos, Espaço simplismente fantástico e com uma apresentação com Gosto, História bem contada, staff simpático, atencioso e sabedor das suas funções, adorei. E depois deixou me com aquela sensação (como é que existe um espaço destes num sítio onde não estás á espera) sem estar a monesprezar a capacidade dos agentes da região, fiquei bastante agradado por ter encontrado um espaço cultural de excelência em Arraiolos
RECOMENDO ( VISITA OBRIGATÓRIA )

O espaço é pequeno, mas está bem documentado, é interessante ler e aprender um pedaço da nossa história cultural, no dia da minha visita tinham duas artesãs a fazer cada uma delas um tapete, o valor da entrada é de 2,5 euros.

Instalado num antigo hospital do séc. XVI este espaço museológico pretende informar e promover o estudo do Tapete de Arraiolos cujas primeiras referências remontam aos finais do séc. XVI.
Tem em exposição diversos tapetes de diversas épocas, informação sobre as técnicas de produção e tingimento da lã e ainda sobre o distintivo ponto de Arraiolos.
Tem ainda em exposição resultado da doação da coleção de Subtenente Piteira e, finalmente, junto à entrada, na capela pode-se ver fossas de uma tinturaria talvez do séc. XIII.

Instalado num edificio emblemático da vila, é um excelente espaço para perceber a história destes tradicionais tapetes, desde a sua evolução histórica, artistica e cultural, alem do complemento etnográfico que ajuda o viajante a entender todo o processo, desde a recolha e tratamento da lã, à fiação e à produção artistica. Na capela é ainda possivel admirar as reminiscências do processo de tingimento. A visita dever ser conpletada com um passeio pelo centro da vila e observar as artesãs a tecerem este ícone de Arraiolos.

Visitei no domingo. Um casarão preservado, com interior adaptado e moderno. Possui tapetes lindos, antigos e também réplicas. A parte histórica é bem explicada. Gostei bastante do local .
