Amazing family restaurant with excellent plates. Difficult to find this level of food in Albufeira surrounding. Scallops with mango + Tataki of Tuna to start and Corvina fillet and lamb carre for main, all nice served in beautiful sauces and fresh vegetables. Desserts to die for! A real hidden treasure!

We have eaten all over the Algarve for the last few decades, trying many different restaurants. We have had a few excellent meals and many average ones. The meal we had here last night ranks amongst the very best we have had anywhere. That includes the UK or other countries. I had done some research online, as this was to be a family celebration meal, and I wanted it to be special. It was most definitely that. The restaurant does not look much (or very inviting) from the outside, but the interior is spotless and well decorated and furnished. It is comfortable and classy. The owner was so welcoming, polite and helpful, making us feel very relaxed and at home. The food was delicious and fabulous cooked. We all had different dishes, from ribeye steak and pork loin, to sea bass and "shrimp" curry. I put "shrimp" like that, as it would have been called a king prawn curry in the UK. We all loved our mains and two of us had desserts. These were a chocolate, caramel and peanut pie and an orange creme brulée. Again, these were both amazing (and I don't really 'do' desserts usually. We had delicious wine from the extensive cellar and some water. It was the finest meal we have had in many years.

A couple of negatives only: the website menu differs slightly to that of the restaurant, both in price and content. But I can understand why, and would happily pay more for the food of the quality we had (I don't often say I would happily pay more). And sadly the place was just so quiet. We were the only people in there on a Saturday night, from 7.00 to 8.30ish. To me, this is a crying shame. It deserves to be full and have a waiting list to book. So if you have read this far then.....please try it!!!

Really good gnocchi. Very easy to talk to and polite. Lovely local red wine. I'd recommend the Negra mole red.

After 2 weeks travelling all around Portugal, O Alagar served the best food of all the restaurants and hotels I've tried (I ordered the Ribeye steak with vegetable side and pepper sauce). Also, great service from our waiter! 5⭐

Excellent meal! Everything was a hit from the hot olive bread, to the scallop and mango starter, the lamb chops and the duck confit. Beyond the quality of the dishes, portions were more than reasonable and pricing was good. No room left for dessert. Will come again.

Very nice place, is located outside the crowd, the food was very good and fresh. Should be more known, they deserve it, Well done!

Excellent food, not typical Portuguese but that is good since Paderne has already several places that serve standard fare. Obviously prices are a tad higher than in a standard place but given the quality of the food absolutely worth it. Will be coming back here for sure.

O Alagar is a hidden gem.

Great menu, great staff. Very high quality recipes and preparation.

Western beef cuts like ribeye and sirloin, and fantastic Portuguese classics like povo.

Great wine list, too.

Delicious food! One of the best restaurants in Algarve!

Always a great dinner, have had quite a few dinners here now.
The steak and pork dishes are great.
The gnocchi could use more of the pasta, but a minor gripe.

Amazing and well served restaurant! We arrived late Sunday. They went put of their way without mentioning. Great food, the meat super tender, amazing!!! Me and my girls where "served" in all the good ways!

Superb food, amazing chef. You must visit this restaurant if you are staying in the Algarve. We've eaten good food all over the region and we keep coming back here every time.
