Tionesta Scenic Area

My second favorite place to be outdoors,second to Kinzua Dam. Historic ANF.

Extremely remote and pristine area of old growth forest.

Pretty awesome

It's a bit lacking in path management. Trees fallen all over, but for some, that's a perk, as it feels less tame. It was not easy to spot paths in the snow unless it was already walked beforehand.

That aside, it's a beautiful trailhead. Densely packed undergrowth of new trees make for a change of pace in terms of views. In the mix are some very tall pines, and many other trees fixed to break your neck, looking all the way up.

There's a short loop and a long loop on this trail. Neither of them are particularly lengthy, so don't feel as if you can't make the long loop in a timely manner.

Side note: These are dirt roads here, so if your car can't handle potholes, ruts, or snow, don't come here.

The trails are in need of maintenance and are difficult to follow due to many downed trees.

It’s a decent hike, if you can find it...

GPS on your phone should get you there just fine, but you have to go down many dirt roads deep in the woods. The dirt roads are pretty well-maintained and shouldn’t cause problems for most vehicles, but some are also pretty narrow and don’t allow much room for two vehicles to get by each other. We were lucky enough to be the only ones driving on them that day.

The hiking trail is NOT well-maintained. It is clearly marked by signs and markings on trees, but there are a ton of trees down right across the path. We gave up and turned around about halfway through the hike after circumventing 3 downed trees and finding a huge 4th one we decided wasn’t worth the effort.

It’s about your average hike in the woods. Decent, but nothing all that special (or “scenic,” for that matter). There are plenty of other woodsy hikes that are easier to get to and don’t have as many downed trees in the way.

Just forest to drive through nothing scenic about it unless you like looking at the forest. You can’t pull over and there’s literally nothing but a dirt road surrounded by trees. Waste of time!
