Charlie's Cafe

What an adorable cafe in a cute town! The service was excellent and the staff was very polite. I ordered off the German menu and I am sure glad I did! The sauerbraten was so good, great flavor, the beef roast was so tender! Of course I always love a helping of spatzle and they definitely served a hearty portion. The potato pancake was great and I appreciated they served it with apple sauce. Really glad I pulled over and stopped for a bite to eat! I got a lot of food for a small price!

We stopped at Cafe Charlie’s on a whim. The morning after our wedding driving through rural Minnesota we googled breakfast near me and this popped up. I am SO impressed. The omelettes were delicious, toast was perfect, hash browns were perfect, and of course the Carmel roll was on point. This place was CLEAN which for small town cafes was impressive. The ceiling, floors, everything was dust and grime free. The waitress was kind and did her job well. This place is a hidden gem.

Stumbled across this place. So glad I did. Food was fast and yummy. Service was second to none. The rhubarb pie is the best I’ve ever had. #youshouldEAThere

It's one of a kind. It's must stop if you are driving through. we've been coming here since we moved into freeport. Classic home cooked type meals, great atmosphere and staff. and the caramel rolls are AMAZING!

Had grilled chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. Wrap was simple but delicious. Sweet potato fries where not salted(thank you). I like light salt so I'd rather they not salt them

We loveee this place. We always stop for rolls on the way up to a cabin. But every time we go to the zoo we stop for a brunch too. Food is always 👏good. Staff is quick and nice and super great. Did I mention the rolls....stop and try it all you won't regret it! Good size portions of food for a decent price. Cute little restaurant.

Food and Service was great! Lovely small town diner atmosphere with a seat yourself situation. Food was fresh and tasted great. Fries came out hot!

Excellent weinerschnitzel on German Wednesday Night! A must stop if you're passing through. Street parking plentiful!

I loved it. Fast service, great tasting burger and onion rings. I can't wait to go back.

EDIT: It’s 5 years later. Stopped in today. New management, same great food. I got country fried steak and some biscuits and gravy. Just wonderful as always. Spacious place, friendly staff. Good food. I’ll be back.

Stopped by for a bite and my goodness was the food delicious! Got the smoked pork chop and it blew my mind away. Highly recommend eating here!

I really liked Charlie's Cafe. The restaurant is kind of an old school diner vibe. I was REALLY impressed with how clean everything was and how well cared for this restaurant appears. The owners obviously take pride in this neat little cafe. The food was portioned well and was very good. It was also priced very reasonably. Last but not least, the staff, was very helpful and very friendly. Their back and forth banter with customers who were obviously "regulars", made me wish I was a "regular" too. I've driven past the Freeport exit for years and never knew what was there. Now that I do, I doubt there will be too many drives up north without a stop at Charlie's on the way.

Been to this great old style cafe several times when traveling through. The food is always fresh, tastes really good and is home cooking at it's best!

Small town Cafe doing Big Town work and serving excellent food and great service. Would highly recommend.

This is a must stop if your in the area! Always good food & service. Sour cream raisin pie 😛 or the Carmel Roll, lunch or the dinner specials you will not be disappointed.

Legendary hot beef sandwich, which they call a "hot beef commercial" here. Really tender roast beef in a sandwich slathered with gravy with a side of mashed potatoes. Waitress told us they used to have a commercial about this dish and people would come in asking for what's in the commercial. Also whole lotta pies and caramel buns here. Looking forward to my return.

Wonderful place. Breakfast all day. Dinners get three sides and they were huge! Walleye dinner with waffle fries, salad was nice and fresh, Wisconsin cheese soup was delicious, but way too much food!

Good old fashion dinner food. Original Chatterbox Cafe of Lake Whobegon fame. Very reasonable.

It had decent serving size, tasty, and cozy. The service was very nice as well!
