If you’re staying in, passing through, or anywhere near Alpine, you’ve got to check out La Casita! It’s a hole in the wall neighborhood restaurant that appears to cater to mostly locals. Within 30 seconds of seating myself I had a basket of fresh tortilla chips and fresh made salsa…you’d better be ok with spicy because it is!

I opted for one of the house specialties, the Mexican Plate. It’s a lot of food…two tacos, three enchiladas (beef, chicken or cheese), rice and beans. The tacos are filled with flavorful ground beef, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and freshly grated cheese. These were some of the best taco shells I’ve ever had…light, crispy and a great fresh corn flavor. I could have eaten a half dozen.

I had the beef enchiladas and they were filled with the same great tasting ground beef found in their tacos. The enchilada sauce had the subtle flavors of sautéed onions and garlic in a mild red chili sauce. They were covered in gooey melted cheese, as were the homemade refried beans.

If you’re looking for great Tex-Mex food in the Alpine area you should check out La Casita.

Had dinner there on our way out of Big Bend in late December. It’s a cozy lil diner just off the main drag of the town. Service was prompt and the fajita plate was delicious! Just a heads up - it’s a cash only place. Bring your dineros.

This is what Mexican food should taste like.
I couldn’t get enough.
I’m not quite sure if I have ever publicly sopped up the last of the enchilada sauce on a plate with a tortilla. The sauce was out of this world.
The only other crispy taco shells that I’ve had this good in my life were my mothers – God bless her soul. For crispy tacos- the freshness of the lettuce, tomatoes and cheese was what you could only achieve at home.
The carne asada was sheer perfection.
The salsa was too spicy for my liking, but another in our party inhaled two bowls by himself.
No thrills, no frills inside. None needed. The food speaks for itself.
They close at 3 pm.
Cash only-no plastic.

Super nice staff, incredible food, really fast too. My enchiladas were honestly the best I've had in forever. Bring cash, be hungry, be nice! They are honestly a must stop when in town!

Like most of the other reviews say, you won't be disappointed at La Casita! It is a true local food spot. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed the food! IT IS A CASH ONLY BUSINESS. TAKE CASH!! Wonderful food, fast and very friendly service! It was extremely crowded when we went, which was close to closing time, but they got us seated, took drink orders, and we were only able to finish one basket of chips and salsa before our order came out. Highly recommend and would return!

THIS Is real Tex-Mex! If I could give it seven stars, I would! The food was simply incredible. I had the Mexican dinner with beef enchiladas and half-and-half iced tea. I was surprised that they didn’t take credit cards, I have not used money in forever. But, it doesn’t seem to slow their business down any, the place was packed when I arrived and packed when I left. If you pass through Alpine Texas, you owe it to yourself to stop.

This is a wonderful place to eat. It is cash only, the only con, because most people don't carry cash. The prices are very reasonable and the portion size is big. The service is great. The waitstaff is very attentive. We were seated, got our drink orders (tea), looked at the menu and ordered within 10 minutes of getting there. Our food was delivered to us in less than 10 minutes. I'm from a bigger city and not used to getting my food from a sit down restaurant that quickly. The food looked, smelled and tasted divine!!! The atmosphere was very pleasant. They have a TV on the wall and it was on a game show channel. The volume was low, but you could read the captions. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

It was so delicious, we ate there three times during our short visit to Alpine! The only thing we didn’t love was the guacamole. The avocados were mixed with sour cream and it wasn’t that good. Everything else was amazing!

Haven’t eaten here since I was a kid and coming back was super nostalgic. The place was just like I remembered and the food was as good or better. This is one of the best hole-in-the-wall Mexican places in all of Texas. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you can’t get any better then this.
My favorite dishes: Deluxe Campachanas, Red or Green enchiladas, Asado

This was in a very off the road old neighborhood and quite authentic which can be bland to those spoiled by the big fancy places that salt and season everything. We enjoyed the experience. Many don't realize the beans and food can taste bland until you add some heat into your food with the sauce. Tortilla chips come out cold, never heated but that's how you eat them at home, right? The salsa was tasty but just a smooth salsa with no chunky bits of onion, tomato nor cilantro but did taste good. No Margaritas served here either. No alcohol. It was tiny but quaint. We were here just after Christmas and it had a warm glow from the decorated Christmas tree and decorations.

All the food was spectacular!! We will be back again and will order some extra tortillas to go.
Remember to bring cash, they are cash only!
You won't regret reading here, in fact you might eat here a few days if you are staying near Big Bend National Park

You can't go wrong with cheese. La Casita, should be La Chasita de Queso. I Loved this place, with a capital L. The queso appetizer was unique and delicious. The fajita plate was beautiful and large, just the way I like them. The cheese enchiladas were perfect as were the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. The black bean nachos did not last long either. I would sum up this great Mexican restaurant as meat and cheese heaven with authentic Mexican flavors. Enjoy.

Great food and very friendly service. I had the chicken fried steak and my wife had the Mexican enchilada plate, very good. We were not aware they take cash only, we had to drive around town to find a ATM, other than that it was awesome. Next time you are in Alpine, Texas go and eat at La Casita, it is owned by Mr. Ramos, you will enjoy the food and even the customers there are very friendly as are the people of Alpine.

Our hometown favorite. I love everything, but my go-to comfort food is soft enchiladas with red sauce and double Spanish rice. La Casita has the most delicious Spanish rice ever! I also love their deluxe compachanos, aka nachos!
