This is not our first time at the museum and won't be the last. We had a great time here, yet again. We actually did a tour with them as well as had the kids do a little class (which they enjoyed. Boys 8&11) Museum is not huge, but has a lot of stuff and a lot of info. Some of the exhibits were different from a few years ago, which also was cool. Staff was always amazing! (I think we bothered them 3 different days) Thank you for a great time.

We hadn't gone here in years, but the kids had always loved it when they were little. My daughter still enjoyed it at 15, as did I.

What a great place and story! Amazing this place was the hub of so much activity while I would on an island. Some cool old buildings to look at a lot of artifacts from long ago.

This is a top-notch museum and a crown jewel of the Wisconsin Historical Society (as well as the Society's only site in northern Wisconsin). It consists of a modern museum with excellent programs (look at the calendar of Wednesday evening talks) and special exhibits plus a "museum within a museum," the original Madeline Island Museum opened by Bella and Leo Capser in 1958. Note that the original museum is preserved with all of its flaws; the artifacts and stories would be presented very differently in a new museum.

Membership in the Historical Society includes all of the museums and historic sites and is well worth the annual fee. If you don't want to become a member, adult admission to this museum is $10.

Thus is a must if you visit the island. The history is amazing. Incredible artifacts and a guide that truly knows the history of the island and its people. Don't miss this opportunity to truly understand Madeline Island.

What an incredible experience! I found the price of admission to be extremely reasonable, given that it is a relatively small museum. The experience was well worth the price! Immediately upon entering we were greeted warmly by the member of museum staff at the front counter, asked if we'd visited before and when we said no, we were given a quick rundown of the museum's features. It was nice to have that instead of wondering "where do we go first?" and we very much appreciated that!

My spouse and I were lucky enough to visit during the Wiigwaazii: The Evolving Traditions of Birch" exhibit and that took our breath away. It was really fun to walk through the modern exhibition center and then down the hall to the old, original museum and the exhibits of artifacts and the Sailor's Home and the "Old Jail". I highly recommend this museum if you're visiting Madeline Island and are a lover of history!

A must stop and see to learn the diverse history of Madeline Island and the surrounding Apostle Islands and the Chequamegon Bay region of Lake Superior.

Very detailed information on the history of Madeline island! Lots of artifacts back from Native Americans and the settlers that inhabited the island. My husband and I brought my 4 kids there on a rainy day and we enjoyed it!

There was so much history. I liked seeing pictures of how a canoe was made from birch. The types of eating utensils that were made and used. The beadwork was beautiful. The hostesses were very informative. Highly recommend going.

The special exhibit of important women in the history of the island was very well done. The older building was also packed with historical exhibits. Look for the historical celebration in August.

For such a small town and difficult place to get to this place is great. Totally unexpected treat. Definitely stop in here after you visit all the junk stores and your wife spends all your money.

In my opinion, next to the nature on Madeline Island, this museum is the next best thing. Great overview of history and life on the island.
