A nice little historic find that may be out of the way, but worth the visit. It definitely has an isolated feel especially if you choose to walk the trail.
The park itself features a pavilion, toilet, and plenty of parking. The trail is a nice small hike with a steep hill. Lots of history following the trail, but some of the signs are very worn and hard to read. If going in warmer weather definitely take bug spray as the mosquitoes are thick.

On our visit the pavilion had a several bats nesting in the middle-ish section of the roof. Unfortunately, there were also several wasp nests.

Overall, it’s a nice small park with interesting history. If in the area, it’s worth a look.

This is a nice place. It is very quiet and peaceful. Beautiful area in the fall. The one negative thing I found was the very weathered condition of the signs that tell the story of this place.

Very cool, but the vegetation does hide most of it. Go off the trail and look for the wood so you can really see it.

Perhaps the most significant historical site in the area, and one of the most significant in the US. I don't think the current site does it justice but it's really cool if you're interested in that kind of thing.

Who knew MO had a salt lick?!? Nice area for a picnic. There is a trail to the salt lick area. It is listed as a steep grade. I am going armed with my walking sticks next time!

I have been going there for over 40 years! It is one the most peaceful places still available to view history, nature, and just relax! Great shelter house and picnic area. Restrooms but no water. I recommend it for everyone!

I am disabled so was unable to take the trail, but the shelter with all of the history posted, made me feel the history of the days past in thee area. Thank you Missouri!
