Northern Soul Cafe

Took me back south with this great food. Chicken was crispy and tasted like heaven. Collards melted like butter in my mouth and the Mac and cheese was on point with cheese and flavor. Topped it off with a cornbread muffin and a cup of Arnold Palmer. I got it to/go but there was ample seating and a good vibe in the restaurant. Portions were worth the price point. I will be going back if I come back to town. I hope to try the catfish if they have it next time!

Went for my first time today, I live over an hour away and yall…..I would still go if it were THREE hours away. The food was amazing, seasoned perfectly, hot & fresh. You can tell the owner of this establishment really cares about the quality of his food & puts in the time and effort. I can’t wait to go back 😂

I visited the Northern Soul Cafe today and was warmly greeted by my girl Charlene. She informed us about the special of the day consisting of catfish (boneless) served with dirty rice. I couldn't resist pairing it with the mac n cheese and yams. The catfish was extremely crispy and flavorful without being overly salty, and the sides were so delicious they reminded me of my mom's cooking. Needless to say, I left the Northern Soul Cafe feeling extremely happy and satisfied.

5 stars is not enough. The folks here are absolutely friendly and treat you like family. Food is beyond good. 5 stars do not do it justice. I got the salmon with the chef recommendation lemon pepper sauce and greens and Mac and cheese. Everything is beyond perfect. Greens are cooked to perfection. Not too mushy and not too firm, Mac and Cheese is firm and gooey. Salmon is so damn tender it is almost hard to eat. Across from MassMutual center so I am positive this place has to be packed before games or events. I can’t recommend the place enough.

Listen, the food is everything. I ordered the fried chicken wings, yams, peppered Mac, and cheese with a cornbread muffin to go. As soon as I took my 1st bite, I wanted to go back and order more. The chicken had a crunch and crispness to it, OH my mouth is watering thinking about it. The Mac and cheese had pepper seasoning, not your average regular dish. Baby the yams, you did that chef. Next visit to your city, I will be back...

For $20 dollars you get a plate that can easily feed 2. The food is fresh and well seasoned. The fried fish was crispy on the outside and nice and tender on the inside. It’s definitely worth the visit with great customer service.

My first time trying Northern Soul Cafe and im soooo pleased! Very nice customer service and THE FOOD IS AMAZING! Its not easy finding tasty mac, but this place did its thing! Chicken was made to order so nice and hot just how I like it. Yam were great. Everything was great! Hands down. I drove all the way from Hartford to try and it did not disappoint. This will be my new official go-to spot.

This food is delicious I am not surprised as I know his upbringing. I got some of those bbq wings BEST THING EVER!!! The Mac the yams the greens….geesh thanks for bringing back home cooking. Hands down GOOD!

Today I bought the fried chicken dish with a side of Mac/Candy yams. Man! The food was amazing and it had great taste. The candy yams are to die for. I Drove 40 minutes to this establishment and I was not disappointed.

The food was absolutely delicious!!! Everything was fresh, served hot, light and tasteful. I highly recommend if you’re interested in great tasting soul food?!!

As Southern food connoisseurs who grew up with great home cooked southern meals; we really enjoyed our take home meals at Northern soul cafe. The food was exquisite- the Mac and cheese was cheesy and consisted of multiple cheeses! The fried fish was battered to perfection and the Fried Salmon in the lemon pepper sauce - wow- delicious! #Firsttimers; We will be back!

I have to say the food here is ridiculously delicious. Everything on the menu is the bomb. The garlic Parmesan wings are an absolute must have they’re so flavorful and juicy. The salmon bites with the sweet chili sauce are AMAZING!!!!! The mac and cheese is to die for so cheesy. If you’re in the downtown area do yourself a favor and stop by and grab something to eat so worth it

Definitely 5star fried chicken and buffalo chicken Mac&Cheese collard greens yams. Muffins yummy Absolutely delicious. Owner prepares cooks an serve costumers.

I have had some good food but the food I just tested was great I enjoyed it so much. I found me a new spot please go try it if you haven't you don't know what you are messing❤

A group of us stumbled upon this restaurant this weekend and were SO pleased. All of the food we got was delicious! The fried chicken was crispy, collard greens were tender and tasty, yams sweet and cinnamony. Adult and kid approved. The owners were also very friendly and kind.

Soon as I walked through the door I was greeted. You could smell the food cooking in the kitchen ❤ Soul music 🎶 playing, vibing while I was waiting for my food. Which was extremely good!!! My party and I traveled from Troy,NY to Springfield for lunch. We came across this restaurant after our first choice was closed. The restaurant has recently opened and the menu is quite small, but the owner said more items will be added w/in the next few weeks. Three of us ordered the fried chicken, mac&cheese and yams. I ordered the fried Whitings. The food was delicious! The serving sizes were enough for two people. The service was wonderful and the restaurant, although small, didn't feel crowded and was nice a clean. We will be returning. If you are traveling through or live nearby, run don't walk to the Northern Soul Cafe

Stumbled upon this place by accident and got some food to take home. The whole family enjoyed it! Crispy wings, flavorful collard greens, baked mac and cheese and perfectly sweetened candied yams- oh my! Great food, great people, great value!

This cafe is a hidden gem! We happened upon it through a google search after lunch plans fell through and are so glad we did!! The food is absolutely delicious (I had the fried chicken, candied yams, mac & cheese, and collard greens. Yes, I cleaned my plate). You know what took the experience to the next level? The people!! Krystal and Matt are beautiful souls. Thank you for sharing a little bit of that soul with us.
