Hotel Gladzor

April 2017,on my way to Tatev wings,I decide to spend the night here.
Since Hotel ARPA seems closed,I pop into GLADZOR, a really big yet totally empty hotel ..the super kind lady in charge can't speak a single word of english yet hand gestures are enough to get by. I have the honor to be the ONLY guest in a hotel with probably over 100 rooms, where scents and voices of a glorious past ooze from the thick sovietic walls..I am assigned a comfy (nice hot water) and clean room with terrace with motherly love ..no wi-fi available,but yeah,I am already overwhelmed by the lady's kindness that I just do not care. I slept very well. This hotel is one another good memory I have from my trip to glorious Armenia and I can recommend it.

This is a ruin, not a hotel. Most of it is abandoned, and the floor in at least one area had collapsed. Hallways unlit at night--flashlight necessary. No central heating in winter, just a space heater that never got the room above 10C (50F); no heating at all in bathroom, so that never got much above freezing. Water stopped completely after 3 minutes. Lights in the bedroom didn't work, just one lamp in the sitting room for light. Electric outlets all hanging out of the walls with exposed wiring, only one of them worked (for the space heater--I'm amazed that didn't start an electrical fire). Ancient mattress and linens. The entire staff was one elderly, charming woman who was clearly working heroically but was not enough to resurrect this corpse of a hotel. Might be fun as an adventure in warmer weather, though I wouldn't count on AC in the brutally hot summer. Breakfast was good.
