Stunningly beautiful abbey/monastery on top of a hill, overlooking Krems and the Danube river. You can visit the museum part of the monastery with an audioguide (which has good and interesting contents but the speakers talk very slowly), as well as the beautiful courtyard and the church. If you're lucky, you can even take part in a prayer in the church together with the monks.

I've been to Göttweig for the second time now and I've enjoyed it both times. There is also a decent restaurant and a souvenir shops. There are multiple car parks (I think 4 separate ones) available, so parking should not be a big problem.

Visited as part of our Viking river cruise. Amazing architecture and grounds. Such great history. The brandy and wine is excellent too. Nice gift store.

Large, well-preserved monestary on top of a mountain with beautiful views. The church was lovely with soft color decor. The hall with the great ceiling fresco was memorable. Side rooms also painted with interesting water motifs. The tour was informative. The apricot nectar and wine tasting was nice. Beautiful views off the top of the exit area.

Benedictine monastery founded in 1083 by the Bishop of Passau. The still active monastery owns the surrounding lands and produces delicious apricot jams and wines available for purchase. The Abbey is situated upon a hill and offered great views around the area to the Danube.

I’d highly recommend a visit.

I went on a private tour of this Abbey. The history and daily operations were impressive. The church and Hof building were beautiful!

Beautiful abbey where you can stroll and see the church and crypt. Wine tastings available near gift shop. Lots of apricot merchandise made from the apricot trees tended by the monks!

Not to be missed. It is hard to imagine how the place is still chugging along after 1000+ years! Walk down to the Danube and then climb the many stairs up to the plateau high above the Abby. Then you can sit and enjoy a fine beer!

This was an excellent, personal tour organized by Viking cruise line. We really enjoyed the details of the history and life of a monk. The abbey was amazing.

Super cool abbey at the top of Göttweig mountain. The view of the surrounding valley with all of the farmlands and orchards is priceless. Be sure to try the apricot nectar. It's made from apricots that are only grown in this region. I would have bought a crate of bottles if they would have shipped it for me.

Holy History, Batman! The Abbey is a very special place. Incredible panoramic views from around the grounds. We watched a wedding take place in the church after doing a personal tour of the grounds. Wine tastings and a separate restaurant assure you won't go thirsty. The frescoes are amazing. Highly recommend you make time for a visit if in the Wachau Valley.

I would highly recommend anyone to take a visit. Very welcoming, open, old, and beautiful building. Amazing views and surroundings with easy hiking routes up to the Abby. Underrated. Should be on everyone's need to see the list in Austria!

The Abby is mostly barrier-free, you can explore it and will take you about two hours. There is a museum a restaurant and a playground for the kids.

I would also recommend taking a detour to Waxenberg if you would like to get a good view of the Abbey. Just follow the signs, also very easy hiking round, should have no problems going with kids or pets.

Such a beautiful sight from the river. Wish we could have visited. Maybe a reason to visit again in the future.

Quite a nice monastery located close to Krems, not as popular as Melk. Because of that, less tourists. It's free to walk around the courtyard and into the church. Nice views overlooking the Danube and the vineyards.

A beautiful functioning abbey. Today they abbey manages a large forest with timber production, a winner and they are famous for their apricot products. A beautiful facility with wonderful frescoes and other items. This is the only place I have seen giant Red wood trees over 100 years old. The seeds were brought back from America by one of the monks that visited there. Truly a magical place.
