This is not a comment on the accounting capability of the firm, but I had a negative interaction. I phoned and explained clearly what I needed for tax returns, and booked an in person appointment. The accountant was polite, but unable to complete the work up-front, and promised to have it done later. I later received an email with a quote for almost double the estimate I initially received over the phone. I then called the firm where I was offered the service at the original quoted price.

I think a person could be forgiven for having the impression is that this was an attempt at price gouging. I would encourage clearer information gathering and disclosure up-front and a more structured customer induction process to avoid this scenario in future. Whether this is a legitimate mistake or nefarious, I feel uncomfortable going forward at the 'reduced' price as it is not clear whether it is being done in good faith or not and I am left with the feeling like I am taking advantage of people.

I am sure you are good people and I would encourage efforts for transparency going forward. I don't believe that prospective clients should avoid this firm.
