Senator Reynolds has been one of the few politicians willing to listen to the unintended consequences that can result from new government policies.
Small businesses like mine who employ between 15-20 staff are hurting. There’s two main levers to pull. One is rent and the other is wages. Landlords NEVER reduce rent so I have to look at wages. Do I stay open nights,Sundays and public holidays or close and lay off the casual uni students (8 staff)?
These extra hours are not profitable but I have always looked at the business as a whole and it’s a service that is cross subsidised by other trade.
