Footwear Solutions (WA Surgical Bootmakers)

Footwear Solutions both current locations of O'Connor and Wanneroo, do an excellent job at tailoring to the customers need as well as instilling the education and expertise you would want and expect. My Dad is a size 17 shoe, prior to arthritic deformities and continual decline. My Dad was a barefoot master and wore double pluggers all his life. Shoes was always a foreign language to my Dad. He was an electrician by trade and wore work boots. So when the day came where both OT (Occupational Therapy) and PT (Physio Therapy) suggested for safety, shoes and socks, we didn't really know who to turn to. After seeing/meeting them at an expo and I immediately went to Footwear Solutions. I met with Kris who has modified and continue to modify and fix my Dad's shoes to fit appropriately without causing irritation, sores or any general discomfort. Dad is a complex customer and the team have always been able to assist and accommodate Dad with his wants and needs.

I would highly recommend Footwear Solutions to anyone with a footwear problem. The team provide amazing selection of footwears as well as current education on how footwear should be worn to improve your current situation and reach your personal goals. My Dad couldn't wear off the shelf shoes due to pain and discomfort leading to injuries. Now thanks to Footwear Solutions, he has; formal shoes, joggers - which he loves, sandals and slippers! The change is skin integrity alone has been amazing as well as his stride and posture with the help of PT also to correct the bad habits! There has also been a difference in his pain and health as Dad isn't prone to sores. It's been a huge difference.

On a side note; Do your research. Some of the 1 star reviews I have read are just garbage. I appreciate not every company is for everyone and some do actually have poor experiences. Don't waste these peoples time, if you wont take on the expertise and advise they provide. Also, it isn't hard to also do your research to see what services the company provide. It's unreal the reviews people write and hard to find good genuine reviews. Please think before you post.

I had a pair of Orthotics made here. I had to come back a few times to get them trimmed. Chris was always very patient and accommodating. I would definitely recommend his services.

Very Accommodating personnel staff

This location is difficult to find even if you put the address in a GPS. The street address should not be Lord Street because you must access it from a short distance and to the left down Newcastle Street. The shop is not in a street at all but a shopping complex off Newcastle Street. Very confusing and well hidden even Newcastle Street. The service at this location possibly deserves 5 stars, the location doesn't.

They ordered a pair of shoes for me in my size. I wasn't (and still not) entirely happy with them only because of the colours. The fit is right and are comfortable. I noticed the same shoe in more subtle colours and was told that they are different (even though they have the same style name on the inside flap). The owner was asked if they were available in my size. He replied no, they are only men's style, coming from the owner I took his word and reluctantly purchased the ones they had ordered. After searching the net to verify that were in fact only men's shoes, Turns out that they are actually women's shoes. Thus my review.

I don't like being lied to. Lying is an insult to ones intelligence. Both myself and my husband have now purchased shoes from here and doubt I will go back. So very disappointed in their deceitfulness. Buyers beware and do your research first. Don't just trust the salesperson, even if they own the business.

This is my second visit. I’m a really difficult customer. I came in to try a pair of shoes that Kris has had made for me. Unfortunately the toe box is too narrow and not enough volume. I wear barefoot human shaped shoes now and it’s difficult for a traditional shoe manufacturer to get their head around that. But that’s the way things are with the barefoot community. It will be interesting to see how Kris responds to the tight toe box. So far he has been really really patient with me 😀

Since the review, the receptionist phoned me and said my shoes were ready. I said I have already tried them on and they were too small. I said, surely you remember me. I came in last week. She said, ho!
Since then I have heard nothing. The owner hasn’t contacted me to say he can adjust the shoes. So I suppose it’s left like that. $100 deposit. However, the shoes cost nearly $700. So I lost $100 and experienced an Australian shoe maker
Now I will save up and get them made in the USA by Broadwinger Boots, handmade out of Bison leather by Chris Layman. Why can’t an Australian make such boots?

In the end he charged me $100 deposit
After 3 months his receptionist asked me to pick up the shoes
I went there
They had wedge heals and the toe box squashed my toes
I said they were too small
3 weeks later she phoned and asked me to pick up my shoes
I said I tried but they were too small
She had forgotten
$100 lost.

The dotty old receptionist needs to retire, walked in asking about an AFO leg brace was told I'd need make an appointment with a padothist made the appointment. Came back a few days later drove 45 minutes across town for the padothist to tell me they don't do AFOs. Here is a business tip for you train your receptionist so she actually know what it is you do.
