Langford at Walcha

Langford needs a fair bit of lot of love, but the original rooms are truly spectacular, untouched, and are well worth looking at, that's the 5 star bit. 1903 preserved to near perfection for the historians...
The newer part is so-so, but still impressive. The owner is quite eccentric, but has managed to keep the house alive. Not many could...
Worth a tour because who knows what will happen in the future...

What an incredible Victorian era grand building, built in the late 19th century. Special thanks to the owners for allowing us to visit this beautiful house. A must see if in the area.

Langford House at Walcha is an extraordinary piece of Australian history which appears to be slowly and sadly "dying". Although a couple of rooms are magnificent, an air of shabby decay permeates the whole building. Constructed from locally made brick in 1903/4, the house is exquisite: leadlight windows, grand spaces, wrought iron, spectacular staircases, wonderful old Australian red cedar. The owner provides a delightful, genteel almost somnambulistic tour full of interesting anecdotes. But dear oh dear! It could be so much more! And for $60, it's a rather pricey amble round a decaying, formerly majestic mansion. I didn't begrudge the money spent cos it's but a drop in the bucket of the funds needed to keep Langford from gently crumbling into the ground. Go and see it while it's still there. And Walcha? Lovely, friendly town worth a visit.
