In the mystical realm of gastronomic adventures, my partner and I embarked on a quest to discover an alternative venue for a late breakfast and lunch. Our trusted companion, a charming sausage dog with the grace of a dachshund, was our loyal guide. And so, it was upon the enchanting Darby St in Newcastle that we stumbled upon the illustrious Cafe Sanctum.

As we entered the hallowed grounds of Sanctum, we were welcomed with open arms, our canine friend included. The staff, possessing both exquisite service and genuine culinary expertise, greeted us warmly. The sun bathed the scene in its golden light as the clock struck 3 pm, the perfect hour for an adventure in culinary delight.

Our first choice, the triple cheeseburger, stood as a testament to the culinary prowess of Sanctum. The triple cheese, a glorious trifecta of dairy perfection, embraced a large, succulent meat patty. Pickles and sauce, meticulously selected and expertly combined, elevated this dish to an exceptional level. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, leaving us enchanted by the sheer deliciousness.

Yet, my heart and appetite reserved the highest praise for the ultimate treasure of this establishment, the Big Breakfast. As a connoisseur of breakfast feasts, I have ventured across the Newcastle Hunter region in pursuit of the perfect morning repast. With utmost confidence, I declare that the Big Breakfast at Cafe Sanctum is unparalleled in its magnificence.

The bacon, ethereally crispy and generously portioned, danced on my taste buds. Perfectly cooked eggs, a true testament to culinary mastery, adorned the plate. Garnishes, delicate and beautiful, added a touch of elegance. The shroom/fungi, a heavenly creation, left me yearning for more. But the shining star in this celestial spread was the crispy, juicy cherry tomatoes, their flavor exploding like fireworks in my mouth. And at the heart of it all, an incredible chorizo that exuded a sizzling, spicy charm.

On the mythical scale of breakfast experiences, this one effortlessly reached 10/10, a rare and coveted achievement. To complement these culinary wonders, a cup of coffee, as wonderful as the stories told by bards, graced our table. The service we received was nothing short of exceptional, wrapping us in a warm, welcoming embrace.

In the annals of gastronomic quests, Cafe Sanctum in Newcastle shines as a true gem. I shall return to this enchanting sanctuary, for the memories forged here shall forever linger in my heart and on my taste buds.

This was the best breakfast experience I have ever had. The double espresso was perfectly extracted with natural sweetness and acidity. The hot chocolate and ice chocolate both divine with impressive latte art. The food was next level, such freshness and bold flavours, I could not pick a single flaw. I have never tasted bacon so well cooked in my entire life, crispy and delicious. The beetroot homous was so delicious, intense and creamy fetta, perfect hit of chilli and marinated chicken omg so good. The toast that came with it, was so crunchy and flavourful with a hint of nice olive oil and had a nice bit of grain in it as well. I am definitely coming back to this place again, the experience is a must. Friendly and fast service, absolutely wonderful atmosphere. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

This was a hidden gem in my opinion. Imogen makes the best coffee in the area and I have tasted quite a few. If you are after a good coffee and great breakfast, this is the place to go. No granola though if you are anything like me.

Great food, juices and service!
I was so relieved that they were still serving food at 4pm yesterday.
I had a fresh juice and Buddha bowl. Buddha bowl was great with all the usual ingredients plus some yummy pineapple and salty, crunchy hazelnuts. Delicious! Colourful, tasty and full of texture. The juice was also just what I needed, with mint and melon - really thirst-quenching. Great place to stop, especially when a lot of cafes and restaurants aren't serving food anymore.

I was surprised by a cafe that i'd otherwise overlooked.

The chorizo hot pot was offered to me with vegan sausage and no egg and it was both delicious and great value.

Toped off by lovely customer service and coffee from Jessie the barista in spite of a hectic influx of lunchtime traffic.
The specific long black bean blend "ascension" was strong yet a little fruity.

My girl friend was suggested the "really great" vegan bowl by a young lady "elyssa" who was on her first day. She was helped with menu knowledge by Jessie. I was impressed again by her customer service as she was seamlessly learning a new job.

The walnut schnitzel burger with vegan aioli and sweet chilli was awesome, definitely no excuse to eat animal meat with this as an alternative.

Fantastic experience. I will be returning for sure!! The staff are beyond helpful, and will go above and beyond to ensure you leave with a smile. The menu caters for everyone and every diet, with so much variety. Our meals were fantastic, and so much flavour- well priced too! I’d also like to add the turmeric, and beetroot lattes are delicious for something different. Place is dog friendly too. Thanks guys. You’re doing a great job.

My stomach was making the rumblies, that only pancakes could satisfy. So I set out to find some and found more than I could ever want.

Very reasonable prices, and you can’t go wrong with All Day Breakfast. Especially if you’re craving pancakes at 3pm on a Sunday. Where else still serves pancakes at 3pm on a Sunday? And this good? Ya dreaming.

Cute little cafe with a diverse range of food options serving breakfast until late in the day. Probably could have done with an extra staff member as it was quite busy and there was only one person working who was quite run of his feet, despite this he was very polite. A decaf option for coffee would be fantastic! My food was tasty and a generous serving for the price.

Outstanding! Breakfast at Sanctum on a sleepy Sunday was awesome. For those who enjoy their coffee the cups are huge. The large is closer to a swimming pool. The food was excellent. Sides of hash brown and bacon became a kids meal. Choices of Green Toast and zuchini & corn fritters wers healthy and tasty. But best of all are the friendly helpful staff that make a place like this, in the busy and competitve Darby St strip, well worth a second and third trip.

Ate here about a year ago but was late to review. The thing that really stood out for me was how pretty our meal was. It looked beautiful and colorful and so fresh, and tasted wonderful too.

Fluffiest scrambled egges this side of Sydney. At first, I was like “radish with egges?”, but then I was all like “radish with egges!” after trying the radish that came with the egges. Awesome touch.

Been following these guys for a while and finally stopped in. Andddd, Sanctum on Darby did not disappoint! 🤤 The service was super friendly, fast and we didn't even have to ask for water. Breakfasts were super asthetic and sooo delicious. Will definitely be back 😍
