I am the carer for someone who was discharged from Graythwaite in the last few days, after a stay of approximately 9 weeks. Unlike some other reviews we were very happy with the quality of care at all levels. From the doctors, to physio & OT, the excellent nurses and conscientious cleaners we were very happy with all staff. The medical care from the doctors exceeded my expectations and the nurses were wonderful. The building is bright, clean & modern. I do agree that there is room for improvement re the food, particularly if a patient is resident for more than a few days, that,s probably our only complaint
A big thank you to all the team at Graythwaite.

The facilities are very good. Top notch equipment and a very clean environment. The staff is amazing. Everybody. Doctors, nurses and all allied health professionals (OT's, Physios, Assistants, dietitians, social workers...).
Everyone working there is very professional and just wants the best for their patients.

I had surgery in Royal north shore for brain aneurysm and transffered for this rehab center last year.. I had great and amazing experience there... when i got there I thought I had no future. But the team helped me to walk and move around bymyself...It was hard at first but I was able to walk abit later.. I cried and enjoy every moment and still thanks for everything.. they deserve 10 stars!!

A place where people go to get better after being worse. The staff do their job efficiently and with a good nature, which is awesomeness. The OT's and physios are great. Regarding the building, the patio doors slam too hard though. Needs fixing. Also the bathroom doors don't have ball hinges to swing both ways. I'm a ball hinge enthusiast, so was a little disappointed as I like to surprise myself each time I open the door not knowing whether I'm opening it forwards, or towards me until I get there. Oh, lastly, there's no vending machine. But that's all good as I'm already too fat.

Thought of giving this 3 stars as the staff are pretty good but the problem seems to be higher up. No real answers as to why rehab went from 3-4 hrs/day to 1-2 hrs/week. Seemed like funding cuts but my brother had private insurance. If your rehab takes more than 3 months, get out asap.

My mother was in Graythwaite for 7 weeks. Here's what I found -
The Good
1. The Rehab staff were excellent.
2. A few of the nurses and one doctor I saw were very good at what they do.
2. The building is fairly modern compared to the rest of Ryde hospital. So the facilities /rooms / bathrooms are in nice condition.

The Bad - this is why I gave it one star and really it should be zero stars.

1. The food was so bad my mum could barely eat it and lost a lot of weight. The other patients I asked complained about the food too.
2. The Indian staff working there - doctors (Dr Donna), nurses, support staff are atrociously bad.
3. When my mum complained of extreme pain in her foot no one checked. Eventually one nurse discovered she had a giant pressure sore on her heel.
4. They left her pressure stockings on for 6 weeks without removing them. When I found out I was so disgusted I demanded they be removed immediately. Her skin underneath was in an appalling condition.

If I was in charge of this place and found this type of neglect I would make it my business to see those responsible never worked in medicine again !!!

There were other issues as well but what's the point of wasting my time. If you are in here or have a relative in here get the hell out ASAP.

My Dad was admitted to the Graythwaite Rehabilitation Centre having an abscess removed from his groin area at the RNSH

Thankful and grateful we had this opportunity to come to rehab after dads operation thinking that we were going to move forward and get to his baseline which is walking.

I do understand that dad has a lot of health issues especially controlling sugars and wound healing GCA and mental cognitive problems and was high care and needed a lot of assisting but in saying all this I found that the physiotherapist team really disappointing

I felt they didn’t give him a fair go by this I mean their exceptation of dads mobility was far off than what he could perform so I felt there was no other strategy or options given to Dad through his stay… day after day in his bed weaker and weaker,
they gave up on him quite early in his stay because it was difficult to get him up… needing two to three people to assist
while the task was hard I do agree it’s not the way to help elderly patients.

First week he walked a couple of times
and after that it was a fail to get him up they continued to keep telling me what dad can’t do instead of maybe one time tell me what he dad can do.so from that point I knew they not moving forward at all with dad which was a great disappointment.

I thought they were specially trained to design a program that was acceptable for elderly patients … no help, support or ideas on how we could move forward and strengthen him a little each day

I had to insist on taking dad out of his bed for 2-3hrs out for lunch in his wheelchair on days I was there visting.

Physiotherapists are trained to carefully and safely guide elderly patients through a series of exercises designed to help them with their specific needs which they failed to do.

Communication has been one of the biggest barriers for dad here and that has caused a lot of misunderstanding and slow to progress.

I believe I needed to voice my opinion on this matter because the next elderly person similar to my dad who comes into the rehabilitation centre hopefully they can assist and help patients better than what my dad received any movement out of bed is a positive no matter how small.

Physiotherapist Unvaccinated against Covid not good enough! Most of the patients are elderly. We are fully vaccinated and can’t see patients ( fully understand) so how on earth can unvaccinated staff have access?
