Red Ginger

Asian grocery and dim sim outlet in down town Byron. This well established place with a beautiful mural of a Hong Kong street scene is well worth a visit. The Dim sim is cooked at the back of the shop and is really authentic and good. There is always a queue for the eateries here. They are popular with tourists and locals alike. If you are lucky you can get a table and wash it all down with tea , which is kept in a velvet lined special pot (that can also be purchased.) The shop also sells ethnic furniture, and frozen and fresh food to take home. It has Chinese brooms , and table clothes and cabinets , and too many really good grocery items to mention here. Really good experience. Well ,it used to be as I used to be local and visited often. On revisiting this week I was pleased to see the shop was still there and went to eat and drink tea.

The staff seem to be hand picked for their ethnic background to add to the general ambience. All through having said that there are also Western staff to balance it up. Uyumi is a very friendly and stands out as a very friendly staff member. How ever on my visit I was a little dismayed by the attitude of Rosa who I actually had befriended when I was local, and in actual fact had helped find a neighbouring property to my own bush block. Granted ,I did not see her actually in the shop when I visited last Sunday. I saw her in another cafe in Brunswick Heads (review to follow). However with the short change she gave me and bad attitude and sour grapes, I was absolutely put off ever going to red ginger again which is a bit of a shame. I really do not wish to meet that staff member again. Having said that I really recommend going to red ginger and think rest of the staff there more than make up for Rosa and anyway I properly caught her on a bad hair day.

Come for the yum cha!!!!
Easily the best yum cha coupled with nicely brewed hot tea. It has great atmosphere and very inviting vibe, this place is hands down the best in Byron if you visit.
They also have your Asian samples like spices to dried noodles.
But you must come for their homemade dimmies and sui mai and most of all, the egg tart. You will not be disappointed!!!

Wow! Dumplings to die for. Highly recommend coming here for yum char - eat in and get free tea at the table 🤩

Excellent selection of Asian groceries, extremely helpful and friendly staff. The dumplings are one of my favourite treats in the Shire! And they come with complimentary green tea served in a traditional Asian manner... it's high class fast food! Highly recommend.

Lovely array of teas & goods for sale. Bought quite a few different teas. Also a great selection of tea pots and cups available. We bought a Japanese cast iron pot with a few matching cups and love them. Very polite staff gave us great advice

I am the owner of Red Ginger. Unfortunately the bad review from Andrew Grace about the broken tea glass is misleading. The shop assistant offered to wrap it in bubble wrap but the lady declined and said it was OK in her basket. This particular shop assistant is an exceptionally well mannered woman. It is not our responsibility if a customer breaks an item after it leaves the store. If we were responsible we would honour the purchase. Sorry Andrew but I did need to give the other side of the story.

Great Asian grocery store. Good product with reasonable price. Especially the frozen home made dym sum and buns. They also sell those buns, and dym sum steamed for quick bite or take away. Owner is lovely and always smiling.

Always good. Great atmosphere. Helpful staff great products. Just wish they would have proper cafe at the back or outside so you could sit and relax in the great atmosphere.

I use to go to yum cha in SYD on the wkds. So when I moved up Byron way Red Ginger was the next best thing, plus everything they have in that store I want to buy. A little Sth East Asia touch in Byron Bay.

All you can refill tea if you dine in. Very nice place to rest from the buzz of Byron bay
