Avis Car & Truck Rental Cairns Airport

UPDATE: I finally got in touch with the legends at the Cairns depot and they've sorted the whole thing out. The wonderful experience I have had with the people there has really outweighed the pain I went through with Avis' general customer support.
Our car was near-new, in great condition, and absolutely spotless on the inside. Picking up from inside the airport was super convenient too.

Had a great experience picking the car up, the staff member who looked after us was super friendly and assured us that the discrepancy between our booking and their system wouldn't be an issue. A month and a half after returning the car and Avis still has our $229 security deposit and cannot give me a real answer as to why they have hung onto it. Unfortunately I can't even get in touch with this branch, calls go straight to the call centre who have no idea what's going on.

Crisis averted thanks to Avis today. We had a 3 week rental to drive from Cairns to Sydney at a different company and it was actually reserved for a round trip. Not an option. Because of the school holidays 3 other companies said they could not rent us a car one way and one even suggested we just skip the trip (and the loses) and fly back to Sydney.
Then we tried Avis and they made it happen. Lake, the person helping us, seemed like he enjoyed being able to help us out and it was awesome because we were a bit stressed as this was happening. While we booked the car, 2 other employees came in to say they were leaving for the day and they all seemed to just enjoy working with each other. What a great experience despite the chaos that brought us there. Thanks for saving our vacation!

Didn’t have the best start to the trip to Cairns and had a few communication issues with Budget and Avis… requested 2 car seats for our kids, 1 forward facing and 1 rearward. When we got the car, both were forward. Not a big deal but the woman who helped us was unbelievable… Sophie I believe. Sang happy bday to our boy and changed the car seat with no fuss or headache. Some of the best customer service I’ve personally experienced

The staff and team were very courteous. We had booked Kia Carnival or similar. Upon arrival we walked to their booth (which is located conveniently around baggage claim) and it wasn’t too much wait. The staff first gave us a previous gen carnival and said unfortunately that was the only car available. Upon inspecting the car, although both the interior and exterior of the car was good, we were not happy with some stains on the seats and went back to their booth, asking for a replacement. They courteously addressed our concern and arranged a brand new carnival within 10-15 mins. We were very happy with the car. Upon return, invoice was generated in minutes and sent to my email with no extra charges at all. Will happily go with AVIS again for my next rental

Mia from Avis car rental at Cairns airport is fantastic and extremely helpful with extending our booking. Took extra time to ensure we got the cheapest rate and kept the car we already had all of our luggage and 3 car seats in.

Arriving at Cairns at 11pm after a 3-hour delay on my flight, I was relieved to find the Avis counter still open. I then had what was possibly the best experience I've ever had at an airport car rental counter. It always seems to take so much longer than it should, even having booked ahead of time, but this experience was quick and efficient.

My only criticism is that I accidentally returned the car to the international terminal instead of the domestic one, to find that there is no counter and no dropbox to drop off the key. I called customer service to be told there is a dropbox in every terminal but there definitely wasn't one there. A small quibble, especially given that I went to the wrong terminal to begin with.

The car itself was clean and well presented as expected, and there were no issues at all with using it.

After arriving in Cairns and excited to start our holiday it was just wonderful to be greeted by such a happy and friendly member of the Avis team! Paul N got us through all of the paperwork quickly and gave us some great recommendations of things to do while staying up in Palm Cove. 10/10 for customer service, thank you Paul!

The car was spotless, very well maintained and easy to drive. Drop off was just as smooth.

I got talking to a lovely gentleman in the carpark upon return, he worked for Avis (sadly I didn't catch his name) he was so friendly and helpful. Great customer service again!

Would definitely use Avis again should we visit Cairns in the future.

Your staff member Sophie was just amazing, she went above and beyond and assisted us as our actual car rental company 'Cruising' gave us the wrong directions and weren't answering their phones. Thanks to Sophie we will be renting our next car with Avis.

I wanted to say how amazing the team at Avis Cairns Airport were! Mick helped us out after another cheapo car company that we originally hired a car with closed at 7pm! (our flight was delayed) so we were stranded at the airport with a 2 year old and 6 year old with an hour drive to Port Douglas. Although most of the mid-sized cars were booked out, Mick worked his magic to get us a car, a baby seat and a booster for a very competitive price. He could see how stressed I was and had great customer service and really helped us! I have learnt my lesson and will book with Avis from now on! Thank you Mick and Avis for making the rest of our trip a breeze!

Had issues fitting the children's car seats in the car we hired. Avis employee walked past and ask if we needed assistance. They upgraded us to a bigger car on the spot at no cost. Car was amazing and in great condition. When returning the car an employee walked straight up to us at took the keys. No hassle, super friendly helpful staff. Couldn't have asked for a better A1 service. Will use again in the future. Thanks Avis

Returned our Avis/Budget car to the Cairns Airport on Saturday 9 June 2018 at around 3 30 pm. Normally a return is nothing to note. However must give a commendation to the staff guy who met us in the car park. He was very personable and professional. We needed two trolleys and he immediately offered to get these for us. He could not have been more helpful and we both very much appreciated his efforts. Thank you Avis/Budget for having a great staff member like this guy.

Just left Paul from Avis Cairns Domestic Airport counter, well after his shift finish time. His Remarkable customer service made sure our holiday in Cairns wasn’t interrupted and helped us with a car replacement. We can’t say enough how helpful he was, and grateful we are. I’m from the States and had booked a car rental as soon as I landed in Cairns. When I approached the Avis desk, Lesha and Geof indicated that they hadn’t received the reservation yet but it typically takes 1 hour for confirmation from the time of booking.

Long story short, they both periodically checked with me to indicate that they still didn’t see the reservation confirmation, called the agency with which I booked to check for any updates, and ultimately provided me a car on their own at an excellent price.

They didn’t have to go out of their way for me but they did. I travel a lot and seldom if ever see as good customer service. Thank you guys again!

We had booked with another car rental company prior to leaving New Zealand. They let us down and Avis rescued us. Shay was fantastic to deal with and the car we were given was almost new. Can't really add a lot except that we won't be dealing with anybody but Avis again.

Great car. Best deals in town. Don't randomly ask for a second driver fee. That's a plus point for sure. Amazing experience. Going to get another car in Melbourne next week from them as well.

Ran into a few problems with the initial car I picked up and when I went to return it the team could not have been more helpful, showing genuine concern at the condition of the car and the situation I was in. Changed the car very quickly, had a pleasant chat and was on my on my way within 30 minutes. I have a 2,000km drive ahead of me and I feel much safer after today's experience - thanks to all, especially Donna.

Avis anywhere in the world is the only car hire company I ever use. Never have any drama with returns, unlike a bad experience I had with the large hire company with the yellow and black logo.
