Yongala Lodge by The Strand

I’ve stayed at various hotels and motels all over Australia, both budget and upmarket, and this is hands down the best of them all. The accommodation is itself is much as you’d expect. A clean, well-located place just moments from the water, good coffee and decent walks. It has everything that opens and shuts, a comfy bed, air conditioning, TV ensuite etc and no unpleasant surprises. The reason I rate Yongala so highly is because of Nicole, the “face” of the motel, and the person I was lucky enough to deal with from the start to the end of my stay. She is a charming, helpful and generous woman, for whom nothing was too much trouble and someone who went out of her way to make me (and my little old dog, Ruby) feel welcome. Thank you Nicole. It can be quite dispiriting staying in motels far from home, but your warmth made my stopover memorable and relaxing. I hope to stay again one day.

Lovely historic building. Quiet area, large well equipped rooms. Very helpful staff. Easy check in and luggage storage. Few minutes walk to The Strand and bus for ferry terminal or you could walk there. 10 mins walk to cafes, bars and supermarket in one direction or 20 min walk to same in other. If you want a quiet place to stay then this will suit you. Other hotels along Strand have bars, cafes attached but means more people and noise. Bus from train station stops about 20 min walk away or cab for $18.

The best cheap accommodation where we stayed on our family trip along the coast of Australia, location is perfect, close to the coast and ferry, the rooms were clean and tidy, beds were comfortable, also they have the laundry room and pool. The staff is very kind and friendly.

Best family-friendly lodge you can find in Townsville, with a free waterpark only 50m away on the strand! The manager Nicole is simply amazing and will get you sorted with anything you need. . Don't worry about other poor reviews, we booked 4 rooms and all clean and comfortable, with mold-free air conditioning.

I’ve spent two nights in this hotel and it's definitely one the warmest reception I’ve had without any doubt thanks to Nicole who is doing her best to make you feel like home and to make the stay pleasant.

The room was clean and comfy, and the hotel was very well located.

We booked last minute directly with the host Craig, very easy transaction, very accommodating, yes the room was dated but it had all the amenities we needed for an overnight stay and being pet friendly was a bonus. Would highly recommend.

My partner and I stayed here over a few days when we were trying to find a place to live in Townsville. Because our situation was up in the air, we were just paying for each night in the morning. The staff were so nice and accommodating to us and were so chill letting us do that. They checked in on us every few days to see if we needed any extra towels or coffee packets etc which was perfect for us. As it is a motel, don’t expect room service and full clean by maids everyday you’re there but what they do have is a clean, cheap room right near the strand that feels safe and friendly. Room is equipped with fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, iron & ironing board, basic dishes & utensils, tv and good aircon. Lodge offers a small pool and laundry room with washer and dryer. It’s a shame we didn’t end up living in Townsville after all but yongala lodge was the most stress free place for us to figure ourselves out. Thank you so much for all your help guys, you should be really proud of yourselves for making such a comfortable place on a budget.

Excellent value for money. Fantastic service and great location. We booked at very last minute (reception closed) Craig was very pleasant & accommodating to our situation. When in Townsville again we WILL be staying here!!

Very friendly staff, very accomodating. We stayed in one of the apartments with our cat. It was a great experience. Would love to come back for a bit longer stay.

This spot is absolutely wonderful. The host Nicole is super helpful and the location is right on point and literally 2 minutes walk to the nearby water park (free waterslides!) You won't regret staying here!

It was my first time staying , it's peaceful and love how make it clear on noise and activities. The room we had was great .

The host was lovely and very accommodating. Went out of her way to check up on us to see if we needed anything which was extremely nice of her. Room was very clean and comfortable. Walking distance to Nice cafes, restaurants and the beach. Would stay again. :)

The customer service from Yongala Lodge was absolutely refreshing, getting the phone call from a bright and vibrant voice before I had even arrived was truly remarkable and my first thought was "OMG, excellent customer service still exists".

I checked in and everything was fantastic. The room assigned had great views, the bathroom had hot water and everything was clean.

I loved the main building being made out of wood as it set the vibe for the stay. The customer service always went out of their way to ensure I enjoyed the stay and was always fantastic to speak with.

Everything worked, the TV worked, I could read the buttons on the remote (unlike a 4 star resort I recently stayed in) and the location was excellent. I only ever needed to hire a taxi twice, one to the Sanctuary and another back to the airport, otherwise I did not need to hire a car or transport because everything was so easily accessible.

Great place, great location. Beautiful old building and friendly staff. Will be coming back next time i'm in Townsville for sure!

In town for a week for work, Nicole was super friendly & accommodating, awesome location & they allow pets.
Room was plenty big enough, clean & tidy & one of the better ones I've stayed in at this price point.
The old original lodge inside is also pretty cool & I believe is now heritage listed.

Definitely recommend for basic accommodation in a great location & if you're travelling with a pet :)

I have had the pleasure of staying a Yongala for 7 days
The rooms are comfortable and clean and I would recommend any one who reads this to book a stay. The main reason I recommend Yongala is Nicole. She is one of the nicest people I have ever met and has gone above and beyond to look after me and my dogs

Desite a very, very early phone call regarding our accommodation for that night, Nicole was friendly, kind, patient, polite and helpful in organising our stay. Our room was spotlessley clean and was everything that we needed for an overnight stay. Yongala Lodge is in a fabulous location. Highly recommend for value!

Brilliantly clean. Extremely accommodating management. I reserved the wrong date but when I arrived Nicole went above and beyond to fit us in. Pet friendly modern rooms available and for history lovers it is a delight to stay in such a beautifully restored building (front building). Super close to the water park and pet friendly restaurants. A+ for everything.
