Tigerbay Retreat

I was lucky enough to stay at Tigerbay Retreat over Christmas and had the most amazing time! We were a large group and had both Semaphore House and the Surgeons Cottage.

Both properties were immaculate and the perfect ‘home’ for our holiday. You can tell that the owners are passionate about the properties; they have been lovingly restored and the history thoughtfully preserved. The bedrooms were beautifully fitted out and the beds and linen were extremely comfortable. The large kitchens were very well equipped for a week of feasting. The trees in the orchard were laden with fruit (some of the best plums I have tasted!) and the veggie patch absolutely brimming. It was so nice to be able to pick our own produce for dinner. There’s a general store a short drive away and plenty of fresh Tassie produce available across the Peninsula. We even visited the local Gin Distillery 'McHenry' which is worth a trip.

The township of Saltwater River is gorgeous, with rolling green hills and beautiful beaches and bays. There is a beach only a short stroll away and both properties are lucky to have views. We enjoyed walks by the water, swimming, kayaking and fishing. There are notable sites nearby such as Eaglehawk Neck Lookout, The Tessellated Pavement, Devils Kitchen and Port Arthur just to name a few. There is plenty to do to keep you entertained, though the best thing was simply doing nothing at all.

If you would like to stay on the Tasman Penisula this is a great location and accommodation. The convict era Semaphore House was originally a Hospital. It features an amazing kitchen/dining room that is a great room to bring everyone together.
Just minutes from the water of Tiger Bay. A short drive to a significant convict site, a Coal Mine. Sleeps 8.
