Altitude Restaurant + Lounge Bar

This place deserves better reviews. My husband and I found the buffet and service to be excellent. We found the price for the buffet reasonable considering it’s in a major tourist destination with limited restaurants in the area. We very much enjoyed it and the selection of hot food, cold options and the scrumptious desserts. The meat options were really good and cooked tender and flavourful. I noticed there were several vegetarian options which caters to different dietary requirements, and these were also delicious. I really enjoyed their salads, cakes, and slices. A very good selection overall. The staff and waiters were also very cheery and helpful, and our drinks came out quickly. It’s in a lovely setting and the tables are presented well. I’d recommend having the buffet if staying in cradle mountain.

Wagyu beef burger was pretty good! Was told that it's better to make a reservation but we walked in and were able to get a seat. We were looked after by Beth, who had a great wonderful smile and five stars service. Really friendly and we loved her energy! Made our night. Thanks Beth 🌟

Really don’t understand the 3.6 rating for this restaurant. Food was good (not fantastic but better than most buffets), my favs were; mixed stir fried veg, cauliflower soup and choc cake/brownie (I’m pescatarian)… in my group they had the lamb and said it was very tasty and super tender.
Service was exceptional!
Price was fine, see people complaining saying it’s expensive… for an AYCE buffet with good food, seems reasonable to me ($58pp).

We’ve been in Tasmania for 6 days now and this buffet was amazing. It’s all you can eat. The meats were excellent, soup, even desserts. Staff is very friendly. Thanks guys!

There are 2 restaurants. The Altitude is the pricey one, the lounge bar is the more affordable one, which we chose.

The scotch fillet had a delicious smokey flavour and perfectly tasty, moist and pink inside. The salad was nicely done but the chips could be crispier.

Very surprised at the reviews of this place, as our experience was phenomenal.

Get. The. Buffet.
The food was amazing and so much variety of meats. Likely not the best buffet for Vegetarian’s, but this meal was the best we’ve had in Tasmania so far.

Staff are lovely and attentive and they seated us in a quieter area as there were loud families in the main room.

Highlights:
- Rib-eye was cooked perfectly (medium rare)
- Lamb shank fell off the bone and was well marinated
- Meatballs were not overcooked and had plenty of flavor
- Bread rolls were crunchy and perfect

Could not fault this place. Honestly, well done!

I am unsure why this restaurant is 3.6 out of 5. It's a great setting, has a top selection of food, and excellent and attentive staff.

I'll admit the buffet seems pricey at first at $65pp but you'll have a great meal (as long as you like meat. I didn't see many vego options beside salad and soup). Plenty for everyone and everything was cooked perfectly and served hot. Just don't get between an oldie and the buffet. You may lose a hand! 😄

The setting is nice and warm, with great views and a nice fireplace.

Shout out to Tameika and Camila on the staff. Both were outstanding.

This was a nice quiet bar to visit mid-afternoon. There is a nice view from the window seating of the nearby Cradle Mountain-St Clair National Park.

The area was clean and tidy so no complaints there.

I would come back again.

Stayed at the hotel and had dinner at the restaurant. My husband and I both had the porterhouse steak. Cooked medium and it didn't disappoint. Staff were happy to chat very friendly. Highly recommend if you don't feel like driving anywhere at night. Plus everything is 30 minutes away. Thankyou for a wonderful evening

Took the 6 of us in earlier than our original booking time even though they were extremely busy. Food was well presented, fresh and all served at the same time by the friendly staff. Thank you for a pleasant experience with a fantastic backdrop of the mountain and forest.

Absolutely no reason for this place to have the rating it does, the food and service was excellent. I was very impressed with the time it took for food to come out as well. I tried a number of items on the menu and all were excellent.

My favourite place to dine at Cradle Mountain! As we live local, its only a short drive for us to go out for a nice meal.
We recently tried another local restaurant at Crade Mountain to check out the new refurbishment and were quiet disappointed that we didn't just stick to our usual. Place was nice to look at but service and food were nothing like the Altitude.
However; we decided head to the altitude for lunch and we were more then impressed like usual. the staff are very attentive and the meals were served large, hot and beautifully plated.
I believe the front of house is under new management so everything co-ordinated so well.

Can not fault this restaurant. Will continue to return and support this restaurant 100%

We were staying at the Cradle Mountain Hotel so we ate dinner at the Altitude Restaurant every night of our stay. We decided to opt for the buffet - which was perfect for us after a day of walking and only a light lunch. The buffet featured seasonal and local produce and the selections changed daily. Everyday they had a live cooking station with a chef cooking a different dish to order. We thought that the food was excellent and reasonable value for money. The service staff were excellent - very professional.

Went there 3 weeks ago for honeymoon. Very happy with the service and the food was delish. Had the High mountain experience with 3 different type of meat and other stuff e.g. the dessert were amazing. Truly fine dining. Fantastic experience and staff are very well trained. Definitely 5 stars.

Booked for dinner whilst our stay at Cradle Mountain. Friendly & attentive staff, lovely food & nice atmosphere. Highly recommend.

We had the grilled calamari last night. We love eating a dish which has a beautiful blend of flavours and textures and we spend half an hour trying to discern the ingredients. Calamari was superbly tender, served on a bed of soba noodles. We were expecting chili, garlic or coriander but could detect none of these. The crunch could have been dried spring onion with palm sugar. The herbs used were subtle & deligtful. Needles to say we are having the grilled calamari again this evening.

Fantastic food and service with a lovely view. The option of having a restaurant or lounge style meal for the night is an added benefit and great value for money.

What a beautiful place! From the moment we walked in it felt luxurious. The restaurant went above and beyond for us. The staff are all super friendly and so helpful. Thank you for an absolutely delicious meal.
