It was our first visit to Wasai in forever and since the major renovation. Sure, the space is much smaller but I think it has so much more warmth and character.

Food is as good as it used to be - highlight as always was the sushi and sashimi boat - so fresh and beautifully presented.

Warm, friendly and professional service, we look forward to another visit really soon!

First time going to Wasabi Japanese Kitchen since it reopened in it's current location. We were really happy with the food and the service.

Wasai has always been popular but the new restaurant is considerably smaller than the old one which made for a tight squeeze. Not sure why they didn't expand the restaurant's footprint.

Size aside, we will definitely return but booking is needed given the restaurant' popularity and small side

Very biased when it comes to Wasai as we've fancied this establishment for many years. Their soba salad is a favourite of ours, alongside aburi salmon and agedashi tofu.

If you had to choose a dish to share, I'd highly recommend the wagyu sukiyaki with a cheeky egg. Add some udon noodles, and enjoy a luscious broth afterwards ✨

Bookings are essential, especially since they've downsized. Wish they were open a little later for the night owls though!

2024 Update: Still one of the best and freshest sashimi in town. Wasai renovated last year and the the restaurant has smaller floor area but everything from the food to the service is still absolutely spot on! My sister loled the beef gyudon, but the curry katsu was the best don we had tonight. The beef tataki was perfect. Agedashi tofu always good, and tried the eggplant dish this time. I like how the eggplant peel is removed making a softer texture.

The sashimi and sushi boat was enormous and well-presented. Easily fed our table of seven people. So delicious! Oishi! The rest of the food quickly disappeared so I didn't get a chance to take photos of the mixed tempura, seafood-tofu-enoki soup, agedashi tofu, grilled chicken and potato salad, and cold vegetable and soba salad. Everything was so good! Definitely recommend this place.

First time back to the ‘new’ renovated Wasai. Happy to discover the same delicious food, and small but good wine list, now served in a stylish modern Japanese setting. Friendly service and air-conditioned comfort. A lovely experience.

One of our all time favourite restaurants in Adelaide. I’d recommend booking in advance as walk-in availability is quite rare.
The food here is exceptional and the best part is - it’s always consistent and never disappoints.
Wasai is a well known Adelaide establishment just off Gouger St near Chinatown. Every item on the menu is delicious. You’ll be back guaranteed. Staff are lovely too. Can never eat here without ordering the tori-mayo and aburi salmon roll!

The restaurant is located in the heart of Adelaide city and pretty close to China town. One of the best Japanese restaurant in the town for sure. The quality of the sushis and sashimis were absolutely good and fine. I really enjoyed most of the items from scallop nigiri to tuna and salmon rolls. Good verity of authentic Japanese drinks. The staff were so professional, informative and patient. The service was a bit slow which can easily be improved. Also the choice of raw oyster on a sushi was not good at all. The combination was very unappetising, too fishy and not balanced. The fried dumplings and prawns were perfect. Well done to the team.

Hands down my favourite Japanese restaurant in Adelaide. You can't fault the quality, service and value. The quality of the food is always consistent; I have been back at least a dozen times and it never disappoints! My favourite dishes include the aburi salmon roll, soba noodle salad and tori mayo. Everything is so fresh and bursting with flavour. Be sure to make a booking, particularly if it's a Friday or Saturday night; they are always busy.. and for good reason!

Excellent!
Don't forget to make a reservation because it's full very quickly!
The sushis are of good quality. My vegetarian friend was also able to find her happiness!
Fast service.
Special mention for the original cocktail.

Hands down my favourite Japanese restaurant. Best value for money. Super consistent, you know what you’re going to get every single time; great service, a delicious feed and an overall pleasant experience.

Been coming here for years since I was a little kid and it changed from Genki to Wasai and I’ve never been let down.

Also do yourself a favour and order the Aburi Salmon roll.

Definitely make a booking if you want to get a table at Wasai - it’s always busy and once you taste the food, you can understand why!
The large sushi ship is great value and is loaded with sushi and sashimi. Two of us struggled to polish it off but it would easily feed four people. The gyoza were the first once’s I’ve had full fried and delicious all the same

What a fantastic place. The service was outstanding from the waitress, she was so friendly and cheerful.

The food was absolutely delicious and I was so impressed I am going back again. Oh and the soju flight took me off to Japan 😃

Everything was so fresh, from the sushi and sashimi, the chicken karaage and the takoyaki.

The prices are reasonable and this place is definitely worth a visit.

Introduced by my friend who lived in ADL for awhile. I would say I am glad that I follow her recommendation and come to this jewel.

The foods I ordered, included a hot sake (big) which was not included in photo, would cost me estimated max $40.

Good quality, and decent pricing.

This is my go-to Japanese restaurant with great traditional food and polite customer service. This restaurant makes me feel like I’m back in Japan and the taste is real.

Wasai is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Adelaide and it shows as the place is always packed during peak hours (booking ahead is advised). The food and service can be a bit slow given how busy it can get. There is a good selection of japanese drinks as well.

Amazing! I am not a guy who loves sashimi, but I dare to eat here! Both scallops and oysters are very sweet, and sashimi can be one after another. Really incredible
I even dare to say that I have eaten a lot of tempura, but no one can make me order twice.
I have to admire!

It tastes great but I don't recommend sushi boat and bentto. They taste good but you'll never get full. If you wanna try various sushi or sashimi, it worths the cost, but if you are hungry you better to get other dishes coming with rice.

Wasai is another great Japanese restaurant in Adelaide, I've been here several dozen times and count on them for dining in and getting a full sushi boat or a nice tonkatsu. It's a pretty place, with lots of seating and different areas set up for groups and solo diners. I'd suggest booking a spot if you want to bring friends and family as they are quite popular and you might have to wait. Also has a decent range of Japanese alcohol so consider trying a beer or sake you haven't tasted yet. Highly recommended 😄
