I recently left BM&Y as a client after a few years with Jason Chong as the partner running my tax affairs. Sadly I found the service had diminished significantly in the past few years, especially when Jason suggested a year ago while having Dim Sum lunch that to save on fees (based on a hourly rate) I have my tax affairs completed by his manager, Ben Weston.

When I first met Ben I wasn’t too impressed (I honestly thought he was a cuck). He came into the meeting room to discuss my tax affairs with a pink shirt on, hipster glasses along with a bit of a hipster swagger and the arrogance that comes with it. As he was discussing what we could do to try reduce my tax liability it became apparent that he had the emotional maturity of a twelve year old school boy and lacked any formal CA qualification to understand the technical aspects of tax. It was actually quite embarrassing and I dreaded going in to another meeting after this. Luckily there was only one more meeting six months later to finalise my tax affairs for that year.

So in the end after receiving poor customer service from this firm and with additional costs on the invoice for time spent on unnecessary tasks I decided to leave for another accounting firm. Should have done it sooner.
