Railway towns such as Peterborough employed half the towns population back in the day but times change and towns de.
Peterborough is a museum in itself as the town is a wealth of old homes and businesses topped off by a fine rail museum.

It's really interesting. As a train buff myself, this was a really interesting learning about the history of it. They have some very unique rolling stock and is a must if your in the area, even if your not overly interested in trains, it's fascinating to hear the history of the area.

Incredible collection of railway history housed in the one location. The Round House and Turntable are great and the staff passionate about their job. You come away with a sense of how much a thriving railway town Peterborough once was and still a town well worth visiting.

Excellent display of SA railway equipment, locos, and rolling stock. The light show at night gives a really good insight into the area and how it became an important hub in South Australia.

Absolutely loved the experience and will go back with my children because they will love it.
I forget the man's name that served us at the counter but he was amazing and very knowledgeable about disability and how to accommodate to our needs. John, our tour guide was probably the nicest person I have ever met and was extremely knowledgeable regarding the trains and carriages. Please visit, you will love it. John, I owe ya a beer mate.

Brilliant. The film is very professional. And the sound and light show is a nice finishing touch.

As someone with a passing interest in old time railroads, this is an excellent experience.
Our tour guide, John is a wealth of knowledge.
Both the shed tour & night light show are definitely worth doing.

Fantastic, take the guided tour, it is very interesting and great for all ages. You are told of the history of the railway and the town. You can explore different carriages and both steam and diesel engines. However, don't miss the sound and light show at night. It is very well put together . Just sit quietly and watch the history, light and sound. It was one of the highlights of our trip to South Australia

What history is all about. Contains a large selection of trains and carriages in one of only a few round houses left. Perfect place for a day tour and a night tour. Very informative walking round the complex seeing all areas. Great piece of history which we are lucky to still have.

The morning tour of this train museum was memorable. The knowledge & information shared by our tour guide was interesting & informative. Suitable for all ages. Thank you Peter for an interesting day. Unfortunately we were unable to do the evening Lights tour as the required number of a minimum of six people was not achieved. There is adequate parking and Public amenities are also available. Should I find myself in Peterborough once again I would surely visit Steamtown train museum again

Excellent, did the combo, the contrast in seeing the trains between night and day is well like night n day🙂,The guided day tour offers a more hands on look at the museum, the night light show and movie is a very informative historical look at Peterborough and train development.

Great collection of SAR and CR locomotives and carriages inside the only remaining roundhouse in South Australia. Always worth a stop to get a guided tour by the passionate and knowledgeable volunteers.

I enjoyed both the day and night shows, the staff and volunteers were friendly, the old trains lovingly restored. The gift shop was worth a visit and you could get a coffee machine coffee there. Restrooms were clean.
