Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages

From my multiple dealings with BDMWA at their L10 office in Perth CBD for the birth registrations of my kids, death certificate for my dad & countless marriage certificates as part of my partner’s business, and also a friends wedding, we have found all the officers at BDM to be friendly, efficient and polite.
I have witnessed the many customers and public from a very diverse and multicultural background at the registry office while waiting quietly for my number to be called, and can attest to their patience in trying to assist each customer to their best ability.
All the permanent regular staff, from Vicki, Chris, Claire, Grace to Geoff, all demonstrate high level of customer service, good tolerance & high empathy while having to work within a structured government system (eg 3 IDs required etc).
They tend to get very busy during peak times around noon, and it can be quite a lengthy wait but they will ensure you are given the full attention without pressure when it’s your turn.
Tips:
- from many reviews, it could be hard to find the building first time. From St George Tce, It’s right at the back past the Dome cafe on your right, and the old boys church & Brookfield Place & Wizard Pharmacy on your left
- there is a counter with many blank application forms at the BDM office
- there’s a nice parents room for babies
- remember to take your ticket from the machine upon arrival
- as with most government department, they don’t open weekends so adjust your visit within their hours of 0830-1630 Mon-Fri but beware of the road clearway along CBD if you are there before 9am or after 4pm to avoid being towed away

My husband and I got married at the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages to save money and had our own celebration with friends and family after. Several months before the day, we went in for a meeting where we were able to provide all our documentation, select a date, make decisions about the ceremony and make the payment. This made everything so much easier on the wedding day as all we had to do was show up and get married. All staff involved were friendly and efficient. The ceremony area was well presented and had seating for our close friends and family. We received both the ceremonial certificate and the official marriage certificate on the day as an added bonus. Definitely wouldn’t change a thing. Having a registry wedding was the best decision.

as long as you come with the paperwork filled out and all your ID it's a fairly easy and quick process for a name change :] waited for 2 mins, the whole thing only took about 20 mins!

I came to this place two times. first when i changed my name and second time when my husband changed his name. Both time i deal with Vicky. She is brilliant and full of knowledge. Both times within 10 mins all done. 🙂.... No time waste. Very happy from her service.l, politness and patiance. 5 stars specialy for VICKY.

Very funny phone call we had.

Always been super helpful here. Replaced my birth certificate in five minutes flat when I lost the old one (whoops). Been super helpful with my recent change of name. The staff are knowledgable, super clear on what forms you need to do what. All super helpful and nice. Amazing to see a governement institution that does their jobs! haha! Thank you!

Just want to say what an absolute legend Lindsey is! I rang on a busy Monday morning, she hadn't had a coffee yet, but explained the two tiny errors on our certificate were down to the office, not us or the celebrant. She fixed it up, no charge and the new certificate turned up this afternoon.

Needed to get a copy of my brothers birth certificate but we were struggling to get the correct ID documents together. Vicky (sp?) was amazing! Kind, courteous, compassionate, and patient she figured out a way to get us the documentation whilst still abiding her policies. This department runs efficiently and I don’t dread visiting so that’s five stars!

Quick service and very friendly staff! There was a problem with the address on our marriage certificate, but they fixed it very quickly for us. I've also been here for a birth certificate, and my mum's name was spelt wrong on it. They fixed that right away for me too. For a government department they are amazingly efficient.

The two operators who served me in two separate occasions were both lovely and very helpful. As long as you've prepared all the required documents, they will proved excellent and efficient service.

The celebrant made a spelling mistake on the marriage certificate we signed during the ceremony (one of the surnames). We didn't realize until after picking up the official document from the registry.

Luckily they looked everything up in under a minute and corrected the spelling issue immediately and posted a new one out.
