SGIO Insurance

Although I switched insurance funds just recently and am no longer an SGIO customer, my experience with SGIO was positive.
Claims were always prompt and usually accepted without an issue - inspection or repair done promptly every time.

Started with NRMA car insurance when I decided to leave the comforts of Perth and fly to Sydney in 2003. No issues over there. Then joined SGIO car insurance since my return to Perth in 2010. 2 claims this year and both were easy as. My premiums were always lower than the other insurers. I used their recommended repairer and this was tied in with recommended Avis hire car and taxi also organised. Very smooth process can’t fault them.

Very slow process.. I just want my car repaired or replaced

5 1/2 hours and 9 phone calls this morning. To simply try and arrange an approved hire car and a tow for assessment and repair of my car, for damage not my fault.
To be told the hire car they booked and approved for 7 days (with roll over) isnt approved until mynnew annual policy and kicks in. And the repair company is too busy. Most inefficient ineffective customer service I've ever experienced.

Been with SGIO for well over 10 years. In that time we have only made 1 claim for a roof leak. Which was not fixed properly and we had to pay $12k to have fixed ourselves. Fine, people make mistakes.
Last couple months we have had to make 2 claims (let's not count the many times things have happened that were covered that we just paid for and didn't make a claim on).
A massive hole appeared in our back yard. The leech drain had broken and sand had poured in. Not covered, claim rejected. Fair enough.
Water damage started to appear on the wall. we opened the linen cupboard and found it was severely water damaged. John lyon group came out. Told us a pipe from inside the bathroom wall burst and would be covered. SGIO then told us it wasn't their problem and said it was the facet that caused the water damage and was not covered. We are furious as we know this is not true as stated by the accessors themselves.
We now wonder why we are giving SGIO money when the only claim they have approved they didn't fix anyway and it cost us an additional $12k. We complained and told them they would lose a customer. They didn't care and were kind of like "ok see ya, thanks for all the money".
We recommend you find a different insurance company.
