Masala Bay Indian Restaurant - Apollo Bay, Great Ocean Road

Very Good restaurant!!!! Best food ! The flavors are authentically rich, leaving a lasting impression. The diverse menu boasts expertly prepared dishes, providing a true taste of India. The service is impeccable, with a friendly and attentive staff enhancing the overall dining experience. Just a small drawback was food was served a bit late. But it was tasty.

Absolutely delicious. We got the butter chicken and beef madras, rice and garlic naan. To die for! Can't wait to come back and try the whole menu :) Also, the staff were perfectly accommodating and friendly.

So, we went to this restaurant last night around 8 pm and found out they were closed because they didn't get their ingredients for the day. But we insisted that they serve us whatever they had, as one of our friends wasn't feeling well and wanted something light to eat. The chef was super cool and he understood our friend's situation. He cooked fresh daal for us with rice or roti. Even though it was just one dish, the food was so fresh and yummy. I wanna give a shoutout to the chef for his understanding and for cooking for my friend when he was feeling ill. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant for the amazing food and service they offer.

This place was a hidden gem on the Great Ocean Road which we found luckily. We were hungry for some good food and this came along at just the right time. We ordered some starters like Onion bhajji, Hara bhara kebab and Chicken pakora. They were simply mind blowing. Each dish was topping the other in terms of taste. The mains were great too but could be a bit better considering both the Chicken tikka masala and the Paneer masala we ordered had the exact same base. They were good taste wise but redundant if someone is eating both together. The naans and rotis were as good as ever. We did order Mango Lassi as well which was also surprisingly well made. For desserts, we had Gulab Jamun which was well served and hot. In terms of ambience, even though it's a relatively small place, it makes up for it in terms of the decorations used and lighting. All in all, a really great place to go to for indulging your taste buds while enjoying the water side view.

Nice food. Loved Naans. Curry quantity probably less but great taste. Tried vegetarian and chef looked after very well. They also serve halal. Chilli Paneer was great.

Authentic, yummy, Indian food!! Only recently reopened with new owners, if you like Indian food definitely give it a go, you will not be disappointed!!

Fantastic onion bhaji and garlic naan. Main meals were delicious, fresh and aromatic.

I'm not sure what the go is with all the negative reviews however this place is great. Vindaloo was better than. Anything I have had in Melbourne whilst the Saffron rice was next level!

Only the two blokes working for the Thursday night but there was no delay on our order nor was there any effect on the standard of customer service. We'll be going back for another meal before we leave.

Good Asian food, better than your average in Singapore. The tandoori chicken was a bit too salty but otherwise still great

My mum and I came here tonight and couldn’t be happier! They were very busy so there was a little bit of a wait but the food was so worth it. Definitely the best Indian food we have ever had, and we grew up eating this cuisine! Would 10000%%% recommend. Don’t be strayed by the bad reviews. Try it for yourself.

Great place for Indian food. We had the garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, dal and vindaloo. Service was good and food came out reasonably quick 🙂

This is some of the best Indian I've had, outside of India! Fresh, fragrant and well cooked meat. My family come here every year, this was our 3rd year and they never cease to impress. Finish your meal with an espresso martini, they know what they're doing 😍

We went to Masala Bay Indian Restaurant yesterday evening to celebrate my birthday. The food was excellent and the owner, staff and the chef were so friendly and amazing customer service. My son loves butter chicken chicken and butter nans and he just loved what was served. You guys were amazing and we wish you all the very best. Chef Venkat your food is top class.

This place deserves better reviews. Visited the place last night. The food was freshly made and tasted better than most of the restaurants in Melbourne suburb areas that I usually go to. The only thing I felt that needed improvement was the quantity. If they can slightly increase the quantity then everything will fall into place. Wish good luck to the management!

We had butter chicken, vegetable masala, a garlic naan and rice... and it was fabulous. Quite clearly a talented chef. Very good quantities and efficient service. A very busy place on a Wedneaday. We're only passing through Apollo Bay so won't be able to return anytime soon but if you're in town, make this place a priority to visit.

Looking at low stars and reviews we were a bit sceptical to go but we are glad we did. We were party of 10 people. We got there at about 6.30 and food arrived around 6.50. Which is not bad at all. Initially we wanted to go at 7 but were told that 7 is busy time and food can take a while to be made. We ordered all sorts of veg and meat curries, biryani, rice, roti, naan etc. I have to say food was really good and tested freshly made, meat was falling apart so easily. Service was great as well. Phillipino lady at counter was so friendly and served us with big smile. Keep in mind that all restaurants in tourist towns have over 1 hour wait for meals from 6.30 to 8. Some of them have note outside the restaurant to say 1 hour wait. So we were ready to wait. But to our surprise everything was timely and delicious.
