Black Velvet Coffee

Darren produces some of the best coffee beans, both blended and single origin, in Melbourne. They are the most customer and service focused cafes I've experienced, and they are just lovely people! A trip to Melbourne would not be complete without paying Black Velvet a visit!

Seriously, the best coffee in Melbourne, probably Australia. Not just saying that. Passionate and hard working owners who genuinely care about their customers. Great little food menu too. So much to love about this place. Give them a go, support small and local businesses. You won't be disappointed.

Great little cafe. Food was excellent (chicken salad roll) and the coffee is even better. The Voodoo Child is so good I even purchased the beans for my coffee machine at home!

Absolutely exceptional coffee. Really just some of the best that I've ever tasted. But, this five star rating is also for their service. For a hole in the wall coffee shop, this place has delightful hidden charm from the most courteous staff I've ever encountered. They instantly remembered my name (how do they do that) as well as my order (days apart!) and always make every customer in their line feel important, and like they're the only customer in the world - while still moving swiftly through the line of orders! I'll never, ever go anywhere else for my morning, midday, & afternoon coffees!

Easily the best coffee in the CBD, probably Melbourne and perhaps even Australia. Staff are always lovely, remembering most customers by name. Sandwiches and little treats are available and super tasty.

Big fan of this spot. Been slinging great coffees at their CBD location for years and doing it all with a sincere smile and excellent service. Their beans are also great for any home coffee connoisseurs.

Slightly bigger than a 'hole in the wall' cafe, Black Velvet delivers exceptional coffee every time. Small selection of food (pastries, soup & toasties) but the real hero is the coffee!

My first soy latte here at Black Velvet is one of the best in Melbourne. It’s strong, smooth and creamy. Glad to hear they are open until midnight each day, even during the lockdown. Emergency coffee fix = a trip to Black Velvet coffee for me.

I visited Black Velvet today and had the most amazing ‘flat white’. We’ve been here visiting Melbourne for 5 days and this is the first coffee I can honestly say that had taste, body and the right temperature. Highly recommend and worth the walk. Thanks Troy - you made our day 😀

Sensational service, very professional, always given with a smile and somehow they always remember my name and regular order too. Good variety of single origin beans which change weekly. On-site roasting with a small machine and I think if you book ahead they roast to order for you to pickup and take home too.

Oh, and they do BRILLIANT coffee!!

Really friendly staff. I beleive the owner helped me out with an aeropress. Was very happy to chat with me about it. Didn't get a chance to try their coffee but will definitely be back.

Amazing and personal service. Ordered an item from their website and it was delivered the next day with a lovely and personal handwritten thank you note. Also there was a nice little surprise in the bag, Thank you Jacqueline and Darren.
