Utzinger Wines

Sensational wines in a sensational setting!
Our group joined a private wine tour with Experiential Tasmania (recommend!) and this was our first stop of the day.
We had never heard of Utzinger and the first tasting of a wine tour can be a bit hit and miss so we were tempering our expectations but we needn’t have bothered - what an outstanding experience!!
We were met by the charming Lauren who poured our first glass of Fume Blanc by the vines overlooking the stunning Tamar River. I’m not a Sav Blanc fan at all but Matthias (Swiss winemaker and Lauren’s husband) is clearly a wizard as this wine was delicious and I would never have guessed it was Sav Blanc grapes.
There isn’t a cellar door as such just yet but it was still a fantastic experience to be invited into the barrel room for the remainder of the tasting - and even better when every wine was unique and delicious!
Fast forward 5 years and I wouldn’t be surprised if this little winery has a world class cellar door and restaurant to showcase their award winning wines.
Can’t wait to visit again one day.

My partner sells oak barrels to these guys and we are just enjoying the 2022 Estate Chardonnay. I get to drink a lot of different wines from all over Australia and I have to say this is the best Chardonnay I have had in a long, long while. Just told her to buy 2 cases next trip to Tasmania 😊 And she says they are a lovely hard working couple as well. Have been to the winery and outstanding view from the cellar door.

This wine is phenomenal! Unfortunately we discovered this towards the end of the trip so didn’t get to go to the vineyard but if you’re in a wine bar in Launceston get a bottle! You won’t regret it
