St George's Memorial Church, Ypres

This may be worth a trip to Ypres on its own. The walls feel like they'll fall under the weight of the memorials and plaques to the dead. I'm surprised it featured a bit less in my search results than its effect would suggest it should.

Stop through, read the inscriptions, and hopefully you'll be as fortunate as I was to have the church to yourself for a while. This place embodies loss and sacrifice, a notable reminder to all of us of war's cost.

A very moving experience to be among the tributes to the fallen heroes.

As with much about Ypres, there is an enduring sadness to all the lives lost there.

Still, there are beacons of hope like this little Anglican Church, which is a fabulous testament to some of the British regiments that fought there more than a century ago.

Just ten minutes inside and one can walk out feeling a great deal more peace than when they walked in.

Lovely church and a fitting tribute to all the men & women who gave their lives for their country during the great war.

St.George's Church is more of a British war memorial than a religious place, designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield. This is esp. for the relatives of the soldiers with no known graves, so they have a place to pay their respects. Everything here, including kneelers, stained glass windows, banners, plaques are dedicated and symbolize the various British regiments that fought the Great War.

A lovely little church, steeped in history, a must for anyone on a memorial visit, and all the regiments badges are represented by handmade knitted seat cushions, also a small crypt with commemorative wall plaques, very interesting little gem... 👍🏻 👍🏻

Take 10 minutes out and visit this church. It is an English church for the Commonwealth troops who served and fought and died. A place for quiet reflection.

We were made to feel very welcome and after a day visiting war graves it felt good to be in a church that has been such a big part of the remembrance of those that made the ultimate sacrifice .

What a wonderful place to visit. The church contains emblems and cushions bearing the names and crests of all British Regiments from WW1

This church is in memory of the fallen 1014-1918 war with brass planks on the walls with names of men who were killed from young private's to high ranking officers who gave there lives to save our future.

Every gift to the church is marked with a plaque. It is clearly much loved by all.
