Very impressive collection. Innovative and interactive. Engaging for any age and helpful and friendly staff on hand. We really enjoyed our visit to the museum and pharmacy. Beautifully restored buildings.

The oldest hospital in Europe with top class works by Flemish primitive Hans Memling. Collection of artwork and medical instruments that tells you early hospital life middle of 12th century.

I just loved everything about this art/history museum. The subject matter, the interactivity, the fact that we were physically inside the very hospital being showcased through the actual art. This is for anyone who loves the macabre, and wants to learn about medieval medicine and death itself. Momento Mori style.

One of the best museums I've been too. The layout and information stations were so well planned, that we got a real sense of the old hospital and what it provided for the local community. The Hams Memlimg section was a real treat. Would highly recommend going to this and the apothecary! (Get the 72 Hour Brugge Museum Card!)

The medieval hospital is worth the trip. Your ticket gives you entrance to both St John’s hospital and the Pharmacy. During our rainy day trip from Amsterdam we visited St. John’s hospital and pharmacy. Instead of the usual hospital artifacts and paintings, there was a special exhibit: Face to face with Death. Hugo van der Goes, old masters and new interpretations featuring 'The Death of the Virgin' by Hugo van der Goes is one of the most important works in Musea Brugge's world famous collection of Flemish Primitive art. The apotheek was small and super interesting with a lot of artifacts on display.

Wonderful museum and definitely worth the visit. A really good interperative display of the workings of the old "Church run" hospital and the vital services it provided. Interesting to see the importance placed on hospitality in such institutions.

Very educational and amazing collection. We visited it together with the Oude Apotheek. The preservation of the pieces is spectacular and we are happy to be able to see it all in person. A must-see in Brugge. For sure.

Could not praise this place enough. Inspiring insight not only into early hospital run by nuns with art work, old carried chaise 'ambulance', herb garden and pharmacy laid out as used then, giving a real feel of the place as used then, but also lots of religious art and artifacts that are genuinely intriguing and each with a voiced description in your own language provided by a recorded player held like a phone to the ear so not distracting others (my 8yr old glued to). We also loved being shown the areas used by nuns to live, felt like a kid again exploring an beautiful old mansion. Staff in shop helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend to all.

I did not expect anything special, though, being an engineer, I was fascinated by the utensils used and the descriptions about practices that have been long forgotten. A museum that did not have a completely religious touch, that can satisfy curiosity about the dark eras of the Middle Ages. Definitely worth the visit if you happen to be around.

Great place to spend some time and an very excellent exhibition for old pharmacist utensils.
It's very cool to be here in the old pharmacy laboratory between all the vessels of clay, glass, and tin and the beautiful old manuscripts. This is like a time journey into the beginnings of the European treatment culture. Back to the 13th century.

Many thanks and greetings from Lower Saxony / Germany

The Memling Museum is part of the historic Sint-Janshospitaal attraction in Bruges. Entry fee is (€12 per adult) and opening hours are 9.30am to 5pm (closed on Mondays), including both the apotheek as well as th hospital ward where you find the Memling collection.

Here you find a fine collection of artworks and treasures, including six masterpieces by Hans Memling. These include the remarkable Ursula shrines, detailed triptych works and very impressive altarpiece of John the Evangelist and John the Baptist. In short, anyone with appreciation or interest in Flemish Primitive art will want to make time to see these works in Bruges.

We've walked past this site so many times and we finally visited - it's superb! There are some wonderful works of art including many by Hans Memeling. Well worth a visit! The Apotheke (Pharmacy), housed just up the street, is fascinating too and included in the admission price.

Great and interesting permanent collection, displayed in one of the oldest buildings in town. The location in itself is quite interesting because of its long history as a hospital. (can you imagine the plague doctors and nurses caring for patients here so many centuries ago during the black death strikes? Medieval surgeons attempting the first surgery on patients?...)
Also there are some fine works by Memling, as they were commissioned by the hospital's order.
Sometimes there's a temporary exhibit as well. Like now (until 6 October 2019) you can see baroque art from Spain's Golden Age. Definitely worth the visit!
