This little museum tucked away from the busy Bruges center was definitely worth the walk out to visit. The Saint Ann’s quarter is beautiful itself to walk through but to learn about the history of lace and the work it involves in general gave me a new appreciation for its craft. The demonstration room on the second floor was fascinating to see.

Cozy little museum with demonstration by ladies creating laces. It takes about half an hour.

My husband and I ended up in Brugge somewhat unexpectedly during our honeymoon, and he was a wonderful and patient enough man to suggest we visit the Kant Centrum even though he isn't necessarily into fiber arts. This was one of the most wonderful museum experiences of our entire trip, which was somewhat of a surprise. If you're in Brugge and interested in lace/fiber arts, fashion, or local history at all, I would HIGHLY recommend this experience!
Although it is a smaller museum space, the exhibits were incredibly beautiful and really engaging even for my non-crafty partner--he noticed a lot of interesting connections to computer programming and polygon modelling that we talked about for days afterwards.
We arrived a little late in the afternoon, but the group of folks demonstrating lacemaking upstairs were all incredibly sweet and generous with their time and expertise even though they were getting ready to pack up for the day. They answered a ton of my questions and even invited me to their lacemaking sessions and classes! (For the record--the lacemakers are usually there 2-5pm/14:00-17:00, and I would STRONGLY recommend planning your visit so you have plenty of time to observe their work. It's super hypnotic and fascinating to watch.)
I walked in determined not to pick up another craft, but the stunning examples of lace were VERY tempting, and the lacemakers were so kind and helpful that I walked out with a how-to book, a really reasonably-priced, beautiful set of bobbins, and a massive smile on my face.

This is an incredible museum for lace and lacemaking! And the lace school is the foremost in the world. I've taken many classes here, and nothing really compares to it unless it's a private class with Kumiko or Ulricke.

It is neat to see the examples of lace products. But the best bit is to go to the workrooms in the school and see people demonstrate lace making. They are very friendly and (deservedly) proud of their work. There were some old ladies with arthritic hands who could still manipulate the bobbins faster than I could follow! It takes an hour out so to go through and is definitely worth the effort.

This place is pretty cool- but make sure you come on the weekend. Its small and is dedicated to handmade lace. On the weekends they have people actually making lace there. On the weekdays, there is a running video on lace making and some historical information on it, as well as some pieces of lace on display- veils and religious items- for viewing. I wouldnt say its really a destination but a cool stopping off point. They have a little shop to buy souvenirs as well- its just before you exit and isnt really a 'shop' so look for the wall before the information/ ticket desk

Whether or not you appreciate lace, or the craft, you will leave with a while new appreciation for the art, and the people who keep it alive.

Really great museum on lace making, and all the more fascinating seeing the lace being painstakingly made by hand.

Il museo è da visitare perchè fondamentale per conoscere la città e le sue tradizioni. La tecnica utilizzata, il tombolo, lo rende originale. Gemellato con il centro di ricamo dell'isola di Burano in Italia.
